Guys, anyone fancy telling me what's so, um, 4.4 about this?

Was it dnmc? Or was it just the fact people thought it looked "gross", "disgusting", "unappertizing", etc.? I'm curious cause I didn't think the shot was that bad.

Although there seem to be 10 2nd place shots. Shrug. I'll take it, given there were thousands of entries in that category! :)

Oh, and I just made my 4000th comment!

Hooray, Jeffrey. That's a great accomplishment. Never mind the other 2nd place shots. You don't have to tell anyone about that. Beating thousands of other entries is huge.

And the Critical Mass DPL team must be congratulated. They were playing in the major league, and came in only slightly behind the Ribbon Hogs. They had the 2nd highest average in the entire DPL. Their team average was 6.5697. Wow! For those who don't know Critical Mass, Team Suck is well represented there.

Being for whatever reason a person who has cracked ribs, separated a rib, and torn my diaphragm over the years, I *REALLY* have sympathy for you Deb.

Take it easy, and they will mend well........do too much and it will take FOREVER!!!!

LOL! I'm really beginning to understand the "it'll take forever" part. And it may have gotten me out of going on my summer/fall vacation, but only temporarily. So as long as I can drag a bag, I'll head off as planned so I can get back here as soon as possible.

Speaking of dragging a bag, I head off tomorrow bright and early (and bag dragging through the vineyards to get to the train station) for the European get-together. I'll get to meet our very own, very lovely Svetlana, one of my DPL teammates ( Pano), and a TON of DPC luminaries. I'm really VERY excited about the whole thing! I'll try to take a picture or two while I'm there. :-)

Deb and Svetlana: have a great time. I envy you! Deb, get a nice, normal snapshotty picture of Svetlana so we know what she looks like in real life. :) And Svetlana, you do the same of Deb!

Yup - too uncomfortable for the TV dinner consumer lodge - the byrds had it: and your pants too tight you're gonna be all right...

Me too, me too!!!

Deb, if you can drag your bag to the GTG, I guess that blows your excuse to skip your "summer vacation". Too bad.

LOL! I tried dragging a bag of stuff for my desert vacation into the house today and it wasn't fun. But I'll find a way to get my bag on and off trains tomorrow if it kills me!

(And I suspect all the Photoshop in the world ain't gonna make me look as young and lovely as Svetlana, but a woman can dream....)

Everyone take tons o' pix at the big European GTG, we want to see what everyone looks like in real life...

Any suggestions on how to process 250+ RAW files from a kids soccer tournament last weekend. I've been putting it off, because I know most of them are going to be crap (mid-day, harsh sun, moving subjects, and trying to shoot with the baby on my lap !)

Nikon Editor doesn't seem to have a batch processing option.
Nor does PSE 4.0, which is what I use - I don't have photoshop.

HELP please *sigh* I do not want to have to go through these 1 by 1.

Nikon Capture NX has a batch processing option. Once you get the initial setting done, you can post those changes to all the photos you wish. If you work a lot in RAW, I really recommend Nikon Capture NX, $150 in the Nikonmall.

I've been away from the camera for awhile again, but I have a good excuse this time. Today is my wife's birthday, and not only will I not be in line for an iPhone tonight, but I spent the last few nights making tamales, empanadas, and other food for her party tonight. I may not ever get a ribbon here, but my tamales are so good they've caused strife and dissent in other people's homes (better than their family recipe!).

RobH: unlike previous adventures in the tamale mines, this time I did not get any steam burns, nor did I fill the house with smoke. You might even say this was a pain free week!

Sounds like a recipe is in order!
06/29/2007 09:31:57 AM · #1573
Ooh, sounds tasty :) And painless, yay!
06/29/2007 09:38:24 AM · #1574
It's a shame. I only had enough ingredients for a small batch (about 50), but once I had the masa prepared I knew it was going to be good. Once they were steamed I could taste that it was my best batch in several years, and my "ok" stuff wows most people.

Most of the recipe is in my head, as all great recipes are, but I'll get something written down and posted later today or tomorrow.

When I had asked this question in the past (not here), various people had recommended "RawShooter" in either the essential (free) version or the premium version. RawShooter was acquired by Adobe and replaced with LightRoom, which (like Capture NX) is not the cheapest thing. Pixmantic (from whom Adobe bought the rights to the software) and Adobe have taken their links off of the web, but I know there are still copies around if you want to give it go.

Because Adobe has discontinued support for RawShooter, you cannot register it, so there is an annoying nag screen every time you start it up.

I'm pretty sure RawShooter can batch process, so you may want to give the free version a try. PM me for links to RawShooter Essentials 2006 v1.2 (the last version I know of).

That said, if the images all have different "issues", some individual attention will be required . . . (but hopefully many settings can be automated).

RobM, glad to hear you've had a pain free week; I'll start peeking at your posts again . . .

But, if you post the recipe, my wife and I are sure to try it. Notice I say my wife and I. If you write something like, "steam for 10-12 minutes," I won't be able to handle it on my own. Which is it? 10 minutes? Or 12 minutes? 11 minutes 30 seconds? Don't give me choices when I cook, I don't make them well . . . :)

Best,

Rob
