Well, I'm done throwing my two cents around.....off to bed I go.....cheerleading car wash tomorrow, lots of fun to take pictures of for the kids' gym and Mom's albums.
Thanks for the lively discussion.....love the viewpoints and insights.
I love what y'all did with the barn.....that was fun and I'll do that more often. I did particularly like it that Jeffrey did a better job with it than I.
I learned from that, thanks!
See y'all later......I've got a busy weekend lined up.

It's not always me, Jeb. Catherine gave me the crop on my current Candid entry, and in a similar way, it improved a lot in my eyes.

How about "Rob H"? I'm not particularly fond of my username for some strange reason :/

Not the questions I would be asking; I would simply say, here is an image, everything here is intended, what does it say to me? First, I see it; just see it (not decide bits are wrong or unintended); second, I see what it says to me (that's my probably original and rather poor use of "understanding" that mucked up that part of the idea); not what you intended, but how I understand what is there; and then (and only then) do I evaluate it. More below.

Now THAT is genius. I will definitely try to do just that in future comments.
It solves the whole debate: simply by telling them what I see, and what I'm guessing they intended, I give the photographer and others reading my comments context in which to place what I say. |
I completely agree (and would have said so last night had I still been reading the thread before I went to bed). It's perfect. Now once I put it into something that I can put in my signature, I'll be all set to go out voting again!
Jeff, congratulations on the appointment and on the trust your employer shows in you; that's a huge responsibility and something that required a lot of hard work and effort on your part. All the best wishes for it running smoothly while you're at the helm -- I would ask if there's a chance you'll get the final nod, but that's probably best not discussed in public ;)
Thanks to everyone who participated in the voting/commenting discussion; it was exactly what I needed to clarify my own thoughts and adopt a reasoned, defensible strategy for voting and commenting!
Best,
Rob

I think skewsme's quote pretty much sums up how I vote, too. And not just vote, but how I view photographs, here and elsewhere. And something Don mentioned also bears repeating - that our ways of seeing, our tastes even, change as we continue to move along our pathways, both photographically and in life in general. I hesitated to say "move forward" because sometimes the tangentials are worth exploring, as is stepping back to see what came before.
Enough philosophy (or what passes for it) from an anal retentive engineer.
Rob H, you could be Rob2. I joined a small golf group shortly after arriving in San Antonio - turns out there were three Debs in this group. So we became known as Deb1, Deb2, and Deb3, based on when we joined the group, and as it turns out, in descending order of height, time in service (we're all military), and good looks. I'm Deb3. To this day, Deb1 and I still address our correspondence to each other with either "Deb1" or "Ma'am1" etc. |

meyers, ouch, that sounds painful!
Random: just looked at the challenge history, and look at the image that got the red ribbon in the first challenge:
How things have changed :)
Oh, and cool news - I ordered 8x10 prints of some of my shots for the first time, and I was a bit nervous because I had to upsize them and wasn't sure if it would work. Just got them this morning, and oh my god, I love them :D I'm particularly fond of demon killer bunny, it came out really well. Bless its little fluffy fire tail. |

I also noticed the voters without camera votes are higher, the those with camera. Talk about change.

Bear's surgery was at 8am yesterday, the surgeon came out to me at about 9am to say they were finished and everything went well, and I should be able to see him in just a few minutes. But I wasn't able to see him until about 10:15am.
His O2 level had been dropping, and he had some "stridor" (I think that's the spelling - basically whistly breathing) coming out of the anesthetic. They kept him on an oxygen mask, sleeping, for that extra hour.
Once he woke up, he just nursed and nursed and nursed - then he fell asleep again, deep enough that he didn't even stir when the nurse removed his IV.
We were released at about noon.
He is visibly uncomfortable this morning, but he's not super fussy.

Thanks for the update, and glad to hear he's doing well. Sounds like they took very good care of him! I'm sure he'll be back to his normal gleeful and energetic self in no time. |

Haven't been around much, summer is here and it's hard to be inside when it is so nice out. Taking lots of pictures just none to fit challenges. I did enter the backside and I'm thinking on puzzle macro, will have to see what comes about. Off to Estes Park for the weekend to the Wool Market. Hope all the fathers have a great day. Mine has been gone snice 89 but I think of him everyday and know that he would be proud of me even if I do suck at taking pictures. He would say at least you are out there trying and learning. Thanks Dad. |

Hi Guys ...
Just thought I'd let you all know how Day 1 back at work went.
OK, I confess ... 7 1/2 hours at work and I was exhausted yesterday! That and 3 hours into work (and one party down) I got a text message that my Mom was in the hospital. No worries ... she is now home just 24-hours later ... with a pacemaker implanted!
Things like that worry me, especially when I can't really help (being 12 hours, by car, away and not very mobile). Luckily she took care of everything before she called 911. She got a caregiver to arrive for my dad*, called my two "somewhat local" sisters, and then called the ambulance by 5 AM. She's a true character.
*Dad has a "not too severe, at this time" case of Alzheimer's.
Edit: I do not know how to spell Dad's disease, obviously.
VERY Glad Bear is doing well. Thoughts are with you!

I'm thinking a "Windows" theme for July's Team Suck Adventure would be great. Any other suggestions?

June. There's still half of it left, kinda. Then we'll do something else in July. No rules, no "must post one a day", just an idea to carry with you when you're out shooting. :-) |
