This is what I call these in my portfolio; I've done 30 days where you live, b&w, and now ordinary objects. Great fun, though if you commit to shoot the whole thing, it can get to be a bit of work, because the biggest thing about the side challenges (for me, at least) is the comments. You get them, and you leave them. But to shoot, process, post a shot, and try to comment everything, and you're lost pretty quickly. I haven't commented ordinary objects in three days, and I'm about 100 images behind, I think!
Originally posted by NikonJeb: And don't confine it to a 30 day thing.....just have it as "The TS Theme of the Month".....join whenever, participate as you lioke, and have the only caveats be that it's all current, i.e. that the shots you share be recent and with effort expended for the theme. |
I think this is a brilliant idea, and the rule guideline is better than the one I adopted for ordinary objects, which was to post on the day you shoot. I think Jeb's rule of "shot for the challenge" is good, but some themes might allow shots from anytime (I can see a "post what you think are your thirty best shots from worst to best" or some such thing).
I like this idea a lot!
Best,

Oh, yes of course, I just thought that if we were to initiate it and keep at it to make it a go, it could easily become a regular thing that would add to the TS "thing".

The thirty thing is what is kinda daunting for me......there are still some of us out here that have dialup, and really busy schedules that just cannot possibly do 30 days. And it makes me feel guilty that I can't comment as much as I'd like when people are nice enough to comment on my work.
That's one reason I'd like to frame up the guidelines to make them as friendly and pressure-free as possible.
Oh......and let it be known right here and now that the first time we get stuck for an Adventure theme, I'm gonna suggest.........WINDOWS!!!!

If anyone feel bored, re waiting for rollover, I would love to know what you think of these two agave collages that I have just completed, that I have up, waiting for Langdon's approval for prints.....
&
I had a recent comment from krnodil
Both your "quilts" would look great as wall posters - have you looked into getting this stuff out to a wider audience?
If you have any ideas, please let me know of them, as I would be very interested.....
I am thinking of some of our great nursery's here at the "Sunshine Coast", and maybe they would be interested.
I love to see them as canvas prints, in large format, just personally.....

I wish I did have more to suggest than that, but I honestly don't know how you would go about it. Perhaps you can do a run of a few professionally printed posters, package them, and then go to that nursery you mentioned and other similar shops and make a pitch for them to sell your stuff there? If you drum up enough interest, then you can produce more. Also, look for poster distributors and contact them to find out how/where they get their stuff? Follow the trail until you find the person/company that actually does do the buying from the artists? I'm just guessing here, I'm really not sure whether any of it is feasible.
Anyone else know?

My older kids have started playing soccer this summer.
Yesterday, Boo had a game, and he seems to have made a friend on his team.
I snapped a shot of the two of them (a pair of almost-5-yr old boys) holding hands just before heading onto the field to play.
I had my 55-200mm lens on, and was too close to get more than just their hands - but I love the photo.
Yes, it's the mama in my coming out - the emotion of seeing my Boo being embraced by another child was almost overwhelming.

I'm in Transition. I have a feeling many TSers will recognize my shot. :)
Lea: that shot is beautiful. That is, it's a well-taken photo, but the themes it encompasses go waaayyy beyond the quality of the shot. In fact, they go beyond your own enjoyment of knowing it's your child and his friend, esp. with the different skin colors.
Susan: hooray! I'm sure you're fine at this point as far as 6 goes. The vote scrubber usually adds to my scores, and I've never seen it drop more than about 0.03. So I'll go out on a limb and say congrats on your new personal best and first 6! :)

Wonderful shot Lea,you're so talented at capturing the moment with children. Your 'mommy eye'could be your fortune!
Thanks Jeffrey, I feel much better about my score now too that it's *safely* ensconced at 6.1. It will go on my homepage, and it's a shot I'm very happy with and confident in. I'm not about to try and predict where it may end up, but let's just say I was feeling good enough this am after I left, that my next stop was to buy lottery tickets - jackpot of $40 000000!!!!
OK must go get supper now, then see if I do have Backside and Negative Space shots.
bye all! |

I'm in for Candid, and will probably be all over Macro. I promise not to do any self portraits of the negative space on my backside.

I'm in for candid, finishing up why with about a 5.2, and just entered Pure after using the extra non-rollover day to pull my transitions entry (which kinda sucked, but not in a good way). And this after being pretty peeved about how the rollover thing went; guess it made me feel better to take advantage of it :)
See you all tomorrow!
Best,
Rob

Just stopping in my cousins to have a peek at scores and let anyone know who maybe missed me even a little. I spent a couple days in the hospital this week (Monday & Tuesday). I now have lots of follow up appointments with some specialists. |
The on going saga continues... Comcast never showed up Monday. Overbooked again! I waited at home from 8am till 8pm. No phone calls, nothing to indicate that they weren't coming (again!). I went crawling back to Verizon. After much investigating it turns out that they do have something called a dry loop connection. This means you can have DSL without a land line. This is the option I went with. So, with no ado and no hassle (no one has to be home, nothing has to be installed, etc.) it will be turned on the 19th at 6pm. For right now, I'm back at the cousins using her connection. I came to check on my entry in the open challenge only to see that it never rolled over last night. What's up with that? |

Hey Sickdog! Good to see you back for at least a bit!!
Kelli, good to hear about the internet access. Will be very good to have you back online a little more!
All - just got back from a Rolling Stones concert in Frankfurt. Amazing. I can't hear and my face hurts from smiling the entire time. Mick Jagger is way better looking in person, and has more energy than a human being should be allowed to have. Keith Richards still rocks. The concert was incredible. No pics - tickets said no cameras - but I did see folks with the small pocket point and shoots. And using the binoculars of some other folks there, I spotted two still photo shooters - both women, by the way. All the rest were using video cams for the images being broadcast on the screen.
A very neat thing - the tickets INCLUDED train transportation to and from the venue. How smart is that??
Anyway, way freakin' past my bedtime, but I'm still wired. I think I'll be late for work... :-) |
