Okay, so I have a friend who asked me to photograph her wedding this friday, and i'm really nervous...i want to do a really good job, i don't want her to be dissapointed. I was wondering if anyone has some pointers for an out door wedding......any thoughts would help...thanks!

Don't drink and shoot!!! Just don't do it....

Oh and P.S. take hundreds of shots so you have lots to choose from. I think most photographers take about 300-500 shots.

I wouldn't waste my time. That guy is obviously a quack :-)

And yes, take plenty of shots. Have lots of memory and extra batteries available.

Edit: BTW, peeing yourself will only make you more uncomfortable ;-)

Nice work on that Tutorial. I got a wedding coming up in August and I think I am gonna print out the list of things to shoot. Thanks for that Fotomann

Thanks. Yeah, I make sure I have that list with me when I shoot too. It's often a bit hectic at a wedding and it's just easier to be able to cross shots off a list rather than have to try to remember what you need.

Wow that is good advice if I ever heard it, nothing like getting home to find out that all you shot was the bridesmaids.

The list of things to shoot is a great idea but being that you are so nervous could I recommend you stop and use at least one of these.

:D

Hope you have a great time and everything works out ok...I'm sure it will.

edit to add...they're also great for a girls night out lol

It was my nephew's wedding last Saturday and I hadn't picked up my camera for a month but figured I ought to take it along anyhow. The pro was good and knew what he was doing so I just went for candid shots and some of the family in various poses and guises. This went on from the wedding at 14:30 through to the end of the wedding "party", at about 23:30.

The pro had gone after the wedding breakfast, when my brother - the groom's father - came over and said that they were relying on me for the photographs! In fact, the groom had wanted me to shoot the whole wedding but (thankfully!) was deterred from asking me. So no pressure then...

Anyhow, there really was no pressure but I did shoot over 250 images, some deleted on the day, in a mixture of lighting conditions. I have now whittled this down to about 62 "reasonable" images and will pull them into an informal photo book for the bride and groom and my brother.

Having gone into this totally unprepared I wish I had remembered fotoman's list but you really REALLY do need to get the fill-in flash right to get the best shots. Given this was the first time I tried it... let's say it was a steep learning curve.

Great fun, big learning experience - but when I allowed myself to get into it and really enjoy it, seeing it as almost a photo journal of the event, it got easier and the photos got a little better. I do have to admit to having to use Bibble Pro and Adobe Camera Raw (not at the same time) to rescue more shots than I care to think about and also saw the need for a fast lens.

Go enjoy yourself and learn from the expertise and experience of those folk on here who know what they are talking about - I wish I had :-)

this may sound dumb....but wear a good comfortable pair of shoes. I shot a muslim engagement party (bad lighting, wedding like poses, etc) where I followed the bride/groom around the whole time...and after 5 hours my feet were killing me! Mind you I had nice, flat pull on dress shoes (penny loafer like) but they did not cut it! :)

(I know...not a 'photo' tip ... sorry! :)

Not dumb. It's really good advice to dress comfortably.

For me, I wear a bow tie instead of a regular tie, because I hate that a regular tie gets wrapped up in the camera strap.

You wanna look good, but you also don't want to be suffering.

This is what I wear to weddings. But while I have tried flat shoes (once)...I actually wear 4 inch heels. I don't have any problems walking on grass for hours, running across rocks...climbing cliffs...whatever is needed. My heels never sink into the ground...it is how you walk on them. And whilst I do sometimes feel some tenderness after 10 hours I actually prefer it. I am only 5'7" and the extra height gives me an advantage.

well the wedding is over, and to say it went smoothly would be a lie. They were not prepared at all.....no one showed up at the time they scheduled for pictures, and they forgot to pick up the bride before the wedding...almost detours me from doing that again...lol
anyway here's a couple shots from the wedding...
