I am in the process of setting up a home studio. Any recommendations on strobes (what type, how many), umbrellas/soft boxes, reflectors, etc.
would be greatly appreciated

Depends largely on your budget and what type of work you want to do.

You can go top end, say with a couple of Speedotron Black Line power supplies and 8 or 9 heads, grids, snoot, barndoors, assorted umbrellas, a nice assortment of softboxes from 24x36 to 60x60, a bunch of stands, backgrounds. That should set you back about $20K or so.

You can go bargain basement and look for something like a bunch of AC slave strobes that will screw into a standard light socket and use those. Instead of a softbox, you can just bounce the strobe off of white posterboard. You can probably get started for a few hundred $$.

In any case, buy a good flashmeter. I recommend the Minolta meters, but others seem to prefer the Sekonics. They range from $200-$500.

I just bought a home studio lighting "kit" from B H photo. Came with 2 SP System stobes, stands, reflectors, umbrellas and case. Under $500.

So far I have loved it!!!
