I have had my Sony A100 for about 5 months now and for some reason, recently it refuses to autofocus. It will focus in and out and then stop trying without actually reaching a focus point. It makes all the motions like its autofocusing and then just doesn't do it. Sometimes, if I am doing a shoot, about 20 minutes in the camera will randomly decide to actually start focusing. Anyone else have this problem with this or any other camera? Should I get my camera checked out? I am anoid because its brand new....brand new things shouldn't do stuff like this....

Have you checked the contacts on the camera and lens. Do you have another lens to try? |

| No I don't have any other lenses, but I will check out the connection thing |

| Electronics are fragile things, but do check the contacts between the lense and camera make sure theres nothing obstructing, covering or any tarnishing which the latter i doubt due to how new it is and you probly dont take the lense off much. |

Well, the next cheapest thing todo is find someone with a Sony Minolta mount lens, if you cant can you find a store to let you test drive a lens.
The connections to the contacts on the lens could have problems, drive motors can have problems. If its the lense you should be able to figure it out by using another lens.
On the camera side there are many components of the autofocus that can go bad.
Is the camera not under warranty? |
