I am working on a cultural month poster at work and one of the images they sent me really has me confused.
When viewing it in it's folder as a thumbnail you see this...
but when you double click it or open it in ANY program (even after uploading it here) you get this...
Go ahead, try it for yourself...right click the image and save to your computer.
What is up with the two different images? I thought the thumbnail was automatically created from the image. I've emailed it to others, tried it in different folders and computers and it is always the same thing.
(If you want to see the actual file for yourself shoot me a pm and I'll get it to you.)
totally weird. |

- In Windows XP Right click on the file and REFRESH THUMBNAIL.
- Now hit F5 to refresh the thumbnail now flips back and forth.
- Close the folder and reopen, the thumbnail is now correct 100% of the time.

ok so what causes this, is it a fluke or something that can easily be done?
It had me going crazy cause the file would show up in fotofusion but I didn't know the name of it so while looking for it in explorer I was totally lost. |

Software that I have for work has an option to create thumbnails for the images or use a different image for the thumbnail - as in a company logo or trademark image - so you can have the image identified by the thumb as copy-protected but when you open the image it is the actual image you want the client to see. The thumbnail info is embedded in the image file when saved as .jpeg/.gif/.tiff. Perhaps they used something similar. |
