with this messege i got this morning?

Hi Jay,

I cruised your portfolio. I'll cut to the chase and tell you what I think of it
as a body of work.

You either have no concept of lighting, composition, color, focus and just about
every other aspect of photography OR you have a complete irreverence for them.
My suspicion is that it is a combination of both but with a much heavier
emphasis on the irreverence. There is genius in your photography.

This is no more apparent than in your portraitures. At first they appear very
poorly lighted and focused. However, I noticed in the 'worst' ones the eyes and
lips seem always to be nicely focused and the background, though simple blacks
and white and really unnoticeable are just right. That can't be by accident.
That can only be by design.

Your variety and choice of subjects is interesting: A prosthetic guitarist,
silhouette of guns, Dionne with the shock of red dyed hair, your 'joiners' and
candid street scenes are all very fascinating.

Ironically, the only work I really did not care for are your college projects.
It is as if your were in another, unnatural world from your true self when you
did them.

Keep up your photography. It will be interesting to see how you grow and evolve
with it.

Take care, have fun!

Steve Davidson

I think your stuff is great. You have a style and it works. The lighting, composition, etc etc, as far as I'm concerned, is entirely intentional. There's nothing haphazard about any of it. Keep up the good work.
