I discovered a strange thing while reviewing my shots from this morning. I took a shot of a draw bridge, and there is a foreign object on the right side of the photo. It looks like a spent cartridge to me and seems to be in mid-air. Judging by its relative size, it must have been fairly close to me. Here is the full photo, and a crop showing more detail of the object. What do you think?

Well, did you hear a gunshot? I'd think if the cartridge was that close to you it would have been obvious...

looks like it might be attached to the arm that is right behind it, but it does seem a bit large to be carried by such a flimsy arm. |

Weird. Seems to look like a spent cartrige. Or maybe a battery? |

NOPE
Not a gun/bullet cartidge or a battery. The primer cap would still be in one and and the other end would have whats left of the crimp. Also its no where near the bridge at all thats an illusion.
It looks like a holder and is actually attached to the end of the pole (non techincal name). Its in an odd place to be a fishing pole holder but it definatly looks like a holder attached to a boat.

I'd bet it is attached to the arm, and given it's size in the photo and apparent distance of at least several feet, it's much larger than your average gun cartridge. |

Oh, that makes sense. I didn't hear any shot. It does look like a pole holder, but the perspective is so odd I thought it was floating in air. Thank you for your expert analysis. |

Expert Analysis? Hardly but me and kirbic do seem to be on the same page with it. |

Thanks all. I'm satisfied that I don't have to go into hiding or report anything to the police. |
