So the idea cross my mind the other day that if I got a bunch of white LEDs and set them up in an array on white card I could have a pretty good means of lighting macro subjects. Has anyone heard of this or tried it? What about taking the concept one step further and building a great big sheet of white LEDs for cheap portable portrait lighting? What sort of issues would you guys anticipate? I'm thinkign that if I shoot in RAW I can manage the white-balance. Any other potential problems?

Ya It can works.

as I just have one lamp, when I need a focus light I'm using a led flash light and is working for me.

Definitely not a new idea, but within reach of mere mortals like us at a cheap price. Check out:

Now that is far too clever for the likes of me. I'm after a single, large (relative to subject and distance) light source. Intensity to be controlled by exposure.
