All - a client of mine wants to get a little (not SLR type) point and shoot with view finder for her trip to Europe.

Does anyone have suggestions? She's looked around and has a Sony in mind, but I told her I would also ask here.

Ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

IMO a viewfinder is worthless on a "Small" Peashooter

I got one of these for the wife and the pics are amazing...handles noise nicely, this 6MP model has 3" LCD and no viewfinder, next model up (7.1MP) has a 2.5" LCD and little tiny piece of glass you look through that they call a viewfinder :)

- I find the ones that take normal AA batteries are far the best - no stuffing around with chargers e.t.c. when you need painless. Load up with some BIG SD cards and your all set.

- Depends on budget but I will get IS on the next P&S I buy (I still have an oldie from years ago that takes okay pics for a small cam).

- I agree about the viewfinder - who cares as I have never used it.

- I like the lack of noise (comparatively) on the Canon's but I hear good things about the fuji as well.

Canon just announced their S5 IS which will be available in July. It features 8 mp, 12X optical zoom and OIS image stabilization. List $499.
Uses AA batteries and also does video, ISO up to 3200. Check it out at Steve's Digicams!

if there's ever a best camera then why are there still choices?
Alicia, if your friend is asking this question then i assume she isnt too nit-picky about functions and image-quality from the camera. in this case, why dont she walks into a real mortar-brick store, and try until she finds one that she likes? modern cameras are all pretty good anyway.

Thanks for all the suggestions and input. I will pass it on and hopefully it will make it easier for her to decide.
