If you are standing 30 feet back from a subject and "zoom" in so their face is filling your viewfinder with your optical zoom lens, will you get the same detail in their face compared to if you were standing 3 feet away from them and not zooming in? |

Most zoom lenses don't have the same image quality from one end of their range to the other, but for all practical purposes yeah you ill see the same amount of detail. |

If the framing is the same, then in theory yes. In practice, Maybe.
It depends on whether the lens, at maximum zoom, is as sharp as it is at wide angle. It may not be, or it may be sharper. You'll also need a higher shutter speed to avoid camera shake at the longer focal length. |

Definitely not.
If you put a camera about 3 feet from my face, chances are I'm going to be somewhat defensive and may show anger. From 30 feet, I'm most likely to be calm & relaxed.
Of course, that could just be me......

most zoom lenses are softer on the telephoto end.
