I worked a concert last night at the college and was allowed a press pass to take some pics. I am extremely happy with the results in complete darkness with no flash.
I added two more. Let me know what you think.

These are okay shot and good for the first try but if you are going to be serious about doing this kind of photography you will need a good lens.
I have 30mm Sigma 1.4, but the Nikon 50mm 1.4 will do the job too and it is cheaper.
I can generally get my shots with ISO 640 800 max. I use that at almost all the indoor venues.
Outside gets a 70-200 2.8 I can stand back from the crush of the crowds and get the good shots too.
I go out at least once a week to local club/bar and shoot the local music scene, practice makes perfect and the lights in these places are horrible.
Musicians are so much fun to photograph, just wish they would blow bubbles or do something that matches a challenge..
Good Luck

Considering the ISO, lens and camera, you should be quite pleased. The colors are cool.
Ideas:
-Angle of shot could be more dynamic. #1 is best for that.
-Consider cropping a bit tighter on 2 and 3, so that they are not static in the center.
-Perhaps play with one is a very aggressive black and white.
-Always think about every bit of whats included in the shot. For instance, you want the keg cup in #2? Maybe you do maybe you don't. How about the guy's arm in "Sing it"...is that important in the background?
Is that good for some thoughts?

I think you have got to be Happy with these Shots as you have no control over the lighting.
Thanks for sharing them, i dont know who he is but looks like Robbie Williams.
Hope you enjoyed the Concert too !
Cheers.

Looks like there might be some softening of the images from noise reduction. But that's my only complaint. These are great shots! You did really well. The first is definitely my favourite. The lighting on his face is great, and the focus point is spot-on. It makes a great portrait. |

I think they're really good.
You did very well in the conditions and the first shot is very intimate and personal, even in a situation like that. I prefer these to the shots in the gallery in the second post, so i don't think your equipment is holding you back.
Well done! |
