Not really qualified to give a critique - hope you don't mind the quick comment.

You've done a pretty amazing job of fashioning a good portrait out of what might otherwise be labled more of a snapshot (no offense intended).

Getting rid of the light or reflector on the subject's head was a must. The flesh tones are wonderfully warmer and the highlight on her hair is an amazing "lemons to lemonade" conversion. The close crop has transformed this image beautifully.

Nice job.

I'd say somewhere in between the two would be perfect. I like the added sparkle in her eyes, it adds life. The skin on the other hand seems a bit too smooth. Maybe adding the smoothing/blur on a seperate layer and dropping the opacity a bit.

I also like that you cropped out the distracting light behind her head but I might leave the bottom how it was in the original. I like the colors and the shoulders and shirt seem to anchor her a bit.

Just my thoughts after a few glasses of wine. :)

The crop is a significant improvement. The eyes are much improved too, although it would be nice to be able to see more of their colour. I think you need to apply more control to the softening. The eyebrows have lost most of the texture and the left edge of the face has no definition. The softening that you have applied has helped but needs to be used with greater subtlety and more selectively. The colour and tones of the lips are much improved over the original, you are however very close to limit before they become artificial in appearance.
Overall I think you have improve the image and are heading in the right direction, you just need to exercise a little more control.

I think the crop is good. You have overdone the soft skin. It still needs to look a little bit more natural. Not sure which procedure you used to do this but knock the blur down slightly. You also need to mask the blurr off the hair as you still need to see detail in the hair strands eyebrows and the hairline. Other than the fact that I feel it is all a little overdone it is a good shot,

i liked the subtle freckles in the original, so maybe taking the suggestion of making the blur a little less with another layer would be a good idea. I like the crop to get rid of the light as well. good job :)

This one is much better. The frecles are visible giving character to her face. Also the eyes have more detail to them. It would still help a bit to whiten the whites of the eyes a bit. Be careful to not overdue it though.
