Okay, please don't go off on me, for I have much to learn.
I'm just curious, what are the positives and negatives of film cameras versus digitals?
I have never shot film,
it just seems like alot of work.
I'm very curious though.
Is it really as time consuming as it seems?

Here's Ken Rockwell's take on the subject, for what it's worth. Beware though, for he appears to be a bit of a dick.

So, film is elite compared to digital,
but only if used properly?
I should probably stick to digital..
I still suck.
=P

Thanks a bunch.

yes, and a bit expensive. if you have an actual darkroom maybe less so over the long run, but the initial expense for equipment is a bit prohibitive.

Cons to film cameras: cost of film and processing, no immediate gratification

Pros to film cameras: they're dirt cheap, lenses of the newer model slrs can be used on digital slrs

Shooting film is no different from shooting digital in terms of photographic technique.

Time consuming? Maybe if your thinking of the time to take your film in for processing and waiting for it to come back from the lab.

Well, considering photography is simply a hobby and interest for me (I don't make money from it) expense is probably bad..
Then again I spend alot on accessories anyways.
I'll probably stick to digital.

I don't see a lot of point in shooting 35mm film these days. Larger format, sure if you need it but few people do. If you fancy developing your own black and whites it can be done quite cheaply without to much hassle. Lots of secondhand enlargers and other bits and pieces about because no one wants them anymore. Many years ago I occasionally taught b&w possessing at a gallery called "Untitled" in the UK. I miss the darkroom, there is something special about making your own wet prints.
