ok, so my mum and pops really love me. They are very supportive of me. They both love the idea of me starting my own studio and as a way of showing it bought me this;
it's a new lens!
it's super sweet, and very sharp. I wish I would have had it for my last year of school, I just have been shooting around and can't get over what difference good glass makes.

That lens has been stuck on my cam for a while. It does a lot and I enjoyed its versatility. It's so good all round that its hard to take off the camera. I sold the darn thing earlier this week - t'was the only way I could get to my 50mm and 100mm glass. But I miss it and I am going to be stuck for a while until Canon gives out some more rebates... enjoy it. Edit it to add that I will replace it sooner or later with the 24-70mm f/2.8 (I wonder about the 24-105 f/4.0 IS).

imho IS is worth it. the 24-105 is something I looked at too. It was a hard choice but I think this one is the better lens.

Congrats Kipp - it is my most used lens by a long, long way, but sadly has broken so is off in to the camera shop for repair.

I bought that lens with my 20D 2 1/2 years ago and I was very happy with it. It's a sweet little lens, and I recommend buying the hood for it if you haven't already. I bought the 24-70 2.8L just over a year ago, but I do miss the long end of the zoom range on the 28-135 sometimes without having to change lenses. I still have it as backup though for events as it's too nice to get rid of. No doubt you will produce some fine images with it. Have fun with your new toy!

Indeed, the IS is very nice. But it made me lazy with the tripod. Having f/2.8 throughout the zoom is what I aspire to. Loosing the long end is a little worrying. But the L lens has a good resale price if not satisfied. I live in NYC so returns to B&H are no issue. The resale price on the 28-135 is very strong too.

Nice lens, very handy. It's a good answer to the question "if you can only bring one lens, which will it be?"
