Now that digital video is becoming more mainstream and available/affordable for laypeople, why not have a sister site for dpchallenge called dvchallenge (Digital Video Challenge). This site was indeed the greatest learning tool for my development early on as a photographer and even now I am able to take things away from dpc. I enjoy digital video a lot but don't know much about the editing side or creative side of it. I think if dpchallenge was good for my photography, something like dvchallenge would likewise be good for my video making. I don't know about the logistics of that kind of idea but i think it would be neat to have weekly or biweekly challenges based on challenge topics.

Don't know if ya'll know, but this Video clips link is a great place to sell video. It's much better pricing that their dollar photos. They are much more a macro stock site on the video side. Doesn't hurt, give it a try, I've learned a lot from looking at others video here also.Check out the video clip selling here. From here go to their footage section

Problem with a DV challenge is the huge storage capability needed. With my Canon HV20 HDV, a 15 second clip converts to over 500,000 Kb each. I guess you could compress it or submit it in a smaller size but sure would be hard to review and vote on each one, most people here spend about 2 seconds per photo to vote and then a review afterwards to revise. Great idea but a difficult one.

after 7 years of shooting and editing video for a living I think it would be a nice change to shoot something for fun. but i agree, mass storage and bandwidth would be an issue as well as all the different video formats.

Edit, also assuming the same format as DPC where you would have themed challenges. edited video would not provide the SC with EXIF data so it would be pretty difficult to prove times and dates etc as well...

Nice plug for your referral link :P

I really like the idea of something like DVChallenge. There would have to be some kind of standard compression that had to be used to make it a level playing field though. Perhaps instead of EXIF, a small clip from just before the start of the film showing today's newspaper could be submitted. And then there's the whole 'good faith' thing which DPC used to have before it got so massive :)

Say, if you wanted to host such a site, Dreamhost would be great! They give you 140gb of storage and 1.4 TB transfer for only $8 per month!

=D

(laughs evil-ly, waiting for the referral cash to roll in.)

edit: speaking of shameless plugs and laughing evil-ly, if you had my DPC icon plugin, you'd see my laughing (semi-)evil-ly on a regular basis, like so:

And now back to the horribly hijacked thread...
