Since there is gas price thread, I want a diesel price thread. I use diesel. How much is diesel where you live? Prices keep dropping here by about 10 cents a week. First time in a long time I've seen diesel cheaper than gas. $2.77/gal

| Well here in San Antonio Texas, diesel stayed significantly higher than reg unleaded a few months ago. When Unleaded was down to $1.99 a gal diesel was up at $2.79. Then it finally started down, got down to $2.39 a month ago but back up to $2.79 again. Even the big truck stops are up now, what happened to diesel being cheaper than unleaded??? |

Would it be better to go onto gasbuddy.com or something... I know this is in the general discussion, but...

I didn't look this morning, but I too have just seen diesel at or below unleaded regular, first time in at least two, maybe three years. Normally, diesel is cheaper than regular gas during the summer, and approximately the same as regular gas in winter (when heating oil demand drives prices up).
The recent addition of the desulfurization process to achieve ULSD (15ppm S) is responsible for perhaps $0.10/gal in the US, but I'm failing to see what is driving the price up so dramatically relative to gasoline. It's a much less refined product, and the infrastructure is there. Demand is up, but not dramatically, and production should rise to meet demand faster than several years. |
