So far (not scientific by any means) I have averaged about 10% comments to votes. My shapes challenge submission has yielded nearly 40 votes and 0 comments.... Score is better than mediocre but, makes me wonder... this will be interesting.

My experience is that a photo with no comments is usually a sign of indifference. But at 40 votes, that's still very early. I once made it to almost 100 votes before comments came in.
