I know somebody else has figured this out and I am not making good progress so I am asking:

Is there a way to rank the photos when viewing the Photo Galleries?

Do you mean like sort by highest rated when viewing a gallery? I don't think it's currently possible.

What do you do about images that are only in one's portfolio? They won't have an average vote since they weren't challenge entries.

That would be easy enough to implement. All unrated photos at the end.

Some images have a vote, some don't. How do you equate something that has never been rated with something that has? How do you know that all those images belong at the end of the list?

I suspect that a lot of people have their best images in their portfolio and not in challenges. If you're looking to see the best images in a gallery using the challenge votes is not really the way to do it.

Yep

Then the ranking doesn't make sense since it doesn't include all photos.

Contrary to the title of the thread we're talking about the ability to sort photos in a gallery. The ability to sort makes sense and if one were to sort by rating it makes sense to have rated images before unrated. It would also make sense to sort by most viewed, least viewed, highest rating, alphabetically, and all the other methods currently available when using browse.

That is exactly what I was hoping for - the ability to sort based on some criteria, i.e. hightest rating, most views, whatever.
