So I've been downloading a lot of cool brushes this afternoon from deviantart.com

When I use them, I would like to be able to just have them be a solid color, like brown or black, or whatever...but in PS all I can do is have them be a 'pattern'

Any idea how I can get them to be solid? Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I don't really know how to explain it better.

I'm not quite sure what you're going for, pattern brushes seem pretty pointless without the pattern.

I assume you're using them to PAINT and that you've not tried to change the foreground color?

Ok...so I've got the image open I want to modify with a brush. I go to the Pattern Stamp Tool, and then the brush menu appears on top....there I can select the brush, the mode, the opacity, and the flow. Also, next the Flow is the Pattern Picker.... I cannot find a way to NOT have a pattern, and to get the brush to be put down as just a solid.

oh never mind...I'm stupid. There's actually a 'brush tool' to use instead of the pattern stamp tool...sorry :)

Try using them with the brush tool instead of the pattern stamp, you can still just "stamp" one picture of the brush if you put it where you want it and click once without moving the brush. If you need it darker you can double click in the same spot.

Edit: you beat me :D
