I've been messing around with Coppermine Photo Gallery all day. In addition to the errors I'm getting, the headaches and nearly breaking my mouse several times, I have accomplished nothing with it.
DOES ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN COPPERMINE PHOTO GALLERY??? |

Gallery rocks!
It even has a Java-based "Gallery Remote" client that makes it easy to create new albums, upload photos, etc. If I can teach non-computer-literate people to maintain their own on-line galleries, it has to be a pretty sweet program.
I've donated becaues I think so highly of the program.
Oh yeah, and the latest version allows voting/scoring of images.

Over the last two days I have installed phpMyAdmin-2.5.3 and Coppermine.
Coppermine was easy. The phpMyAdmin the host linked to had a bug in it come to find out and I had to download the new version.
I am not crazy about Coppermine but it is real nice.
I want a gallery software like EddyG is talking about. But my host is lacking some options and it will not run.
I think it said that the safe mode was diabled.
I think Gallery had the option of linking to ez-prints for photo sales. And that is what I would like.

Gallery does indeed have some print ordering capability, but it doesn't have a "photo sale" mode. It just allows your gallery viewers to add your pictures to the online photo processor's "cart" and place an order directly with them. But it doesn't have a way for you to set prices, have an order processed and delivered to a customer and for you to get a check from them as part of the sale... at least as far as I know. Gallery is an ever-evolving open-source project, so things could've changed.
That is too bad about your host not being set up properly; I've helped several people get it running on the free 1&1 deal (including Jacko), so maybe you could look into that as a hosting solution. |

I downloaded a utility they had to test the site and that is the message it gave me? Safe Mode: Disabled - Fatal will not work?
It amy work if you say you have done it on 1and1.com.
I will have to take another look at it and the 1and1.com settings.

This is the test results:
This scripts tests many of the basic requirements for Gallery to run on your system. It is not a catch all, but does check most settings that Gallery requires. It does not check for ImageMagick and NetPBM (or other programs Gallery can use)
If any of these tests fail with a fatal warning, Gallery will not run on your host
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
safe mode disabled Fatal Warning
exec() function enabled Pass
file_uploads enabled Pass
session.save_path writable Pass
session.use_cookies on Pass
allow_url_fopen on Pass

That's odd. According to my Gallery configurations, safe_mode has to be disabled.
From the first screen of the Gallery 1.4.1 Configuration Wizard:
Check to see if PHP is running in safe_mode. Safe Mode is a PHP security feature commonly used in shared environments. Gallery cannot run when Safe Mode is enabled because it imposes too many restrictions.
You do get a couple warnings due to the configuration of the 1&1 servers, but it doesn't seem to impact Gallery functionality to any noticeable degree.

Got this from the Gallery website:
Note: Your PHP installation must not be in safe mode. Gallery is a sophisticated application and must do operations that require extensive privileges. Safe mode prevents Gallery from functioning properly. You must also have full access to functions. It's particularly worth noting that Gallery cannot run on a host with exec disabled.

Your posts seem contradictory to me.
First you say:
This scripts tests many of the basic requirements for Gallery to run on your system...
safe mode disabled Fatal Warning
Then you say:
Got this from the Gallery website:
Note: Your PHP installation must not be in safe mode.
According to the first thing you posted, safe mode is disabled, but it says it is a "fatal warning". Then in the second thing you post, you say safe mode must be disabled (which it is, according to your first test).
I have a feeling the first tool you ran might be out-of-date and for a much older version of Gallery.
Like I said, when I did a Gallery install on 1&1, there were some warnings, but since those items are outside of your control, you just have to accept them and leave with the minor (in 1&1's case) side effects. |

I downloaded the check tool from some place on their website? LOL
So it is there info that is confusing.
I downloaded the programs Gallery and Gallery Remote and I will check them out.
I was waiting to here back from the PM I sent to you.
I was asking is there a script or etc. that helps edit the config.inc.php file or other settings for PHP?
Edit:
For just simple file editing I tried the VI and Joe and they are not very friendly to use and Notepad just ran all the text tegether.
I finally found MS Wordpad lets you edit the php files and formats them correctly so they are readable.
