I was looking back at my night challenge entries, and noticed some interesting dots. There are three pixels in the images that are white, and have small Xs around them. Is this what people mean when they talk about hot-pixels?
I thought hot-pixels were random events from cumulative noise, but these are very precisely the same 3 pixels in every image.
They only appear in images over 10 seconds exposure. The same 3 Xs appear in all photos over 10sec exposure, and are not visible at all in any faster exposures. Also checked some long exposures made a week or two earlier, and they are there too.
I suspect the little X pattern (5 dots, with the white spot in the centre) might be related to in-camera processing, noise removal, or sharpening, or something like that.

Yes, those would be hot pixels. |
