Hey! I am updating my profile with smaller images...I didn't resize my originals and the files are huge! Anyway, I used some processing that I learned in the tutorials here ("move the light") and want to know what you think of my edits. I am getting a little halo effect around the subjects of my portraits...any quick fix for this?

Thanks!

Other than the halos (and my personal thoughts on the president ;) ) they look great!

I haven't tried it, but I think if you took a very soft brush and painted black with low opacity into the halo areas on the 'light' layer you could probably blend them in pretty well just by hand/eye.

The farmboy and football shots are particularly great, in my book. Very moody.

I don't like the halo's on the first three, but the fourth is excellent.

Yeah, especially the second one.

Nice work, Drew. I agree that the halos are distracting and eamurdock is quite right about fading the effect back to blend them better. This will happen anywhere dark and light meet so take care to be rather light-handed around those areas.

I used Cindi's method on my current landscape challenge entry and I was amazed on how much it helped my image. One suggestion, you can transition between the light and dark areas by lowering the opacity of the paint brush to 25% - 50%. This adds a nice taper to the moving the light effect (light or dark) after the layer is set to soft light and the gausian blur is added.

Tim

PS: Thanks Cindi. Great tutorial.

Thank you all for the thoughts & suggestions. I wasn't pleased with the appearance of the halos, but posted the pics anyway. I figured I would have to go back in an "taper" the edges a little more.

Thanks again!
