So, I started advertising on craigs list. I had heard they where a good place to advertise on for free. I am looking for a model to do TFP work. I am trying to expand my portfolio/website. All I have got back is 5 people sending me nude pictures of themselves. (Not even good pictures LOL). Does anyone have any good experience with Craigs list. Is it worth my time or should I try elsewhere.

Try these threads for some good advice.

How do you find models (NOT family / friends)?

Thanks, I went ahead and registered with Model Mayhem. I am just waiting to see if they approve me.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

1. You should have no problem getting on MM.
2. As close as you are to the Tampa/Clearwater area, you will be SWAMPED with models.
3. Enjoy!

Thanks I hope it works. I got a good responce back from Craigs list. A mother would like pictures with her and her children. It will work but it is not the model style shot I am looking for.

I am going to wait to hear back from MM.

Thanks for your responces.

I don't understand. You get a bunch of nude photos in reply to an ad, and you think this is a problem?

;-)

LOL!! My problem is that they are all women and my hubby checks my E-mail and wonders what the heck I am up to.

i put an ad on CL and I got several good responses. What I put tho was models/actors who could do a broad range of emotions in exchange for prints...I got quite a few actors who wanted head shot type shots and could do other 'looks' and were willing to sign a model release ( i also put need to be willing to sign a model release on ad)

hope that helps : )

Thanks I think next time I am going to be more specific. I think I need to add more details of what I am looking for. Maybe add "Willing to sign model release" and "no exotic/nudes". I hope that will help.

Thanks again.

A bunch of pics of nude women that you share with your husband -- it's obvious that we have vastly different definitions of the word "problem." ;-)

But seriously, I think that the PWP reference was to Professional Women's Photographers. You might find some good resources there.

Naw, she should just tell him she was making him a birthday surprise and that since he ruined it he's not getting the nude calendar that she was making.

Serious models won't sign releases for trade.

If you're doing this for practice and portfolio purposes, then just keep it simple and leave the commercial forms out of it.

I actually started out with CL and have had many revisions to my posting too.

I now state:

I don't want to shoot nudes
I'm shooting for stock, slice of life images is what I'm looking for
I include my web site so they can see stuff I've shot before
That it is TFP - but if we get to a successful working relationship I'll cut them in on a percentage of the sales
That I want their input on possible shoots

Those points cut the naked photos by 95% - but I still have to slog through a ton of flakes to find the gems.

But find one I did - she is terrific, a model with an agent that doesn't give her enough work, so she works with me for free to not mess up their arrangement.

I also found another terrific model by just telling friends what I'm up to and showing my model shoot photos around via email. I had a former student recommend her cousin who has been terrific too! (she's the chocolate girl )

I also hand out cards to acquaintances (people I see at the gym for example) and tell them to check out my site and let me know if they are interested. I give out a LOT of cards to get a couple who are willing to shoot - but it does work.

There, hope that's not too redundant with the links that were posted.
