I took the time to call in to one of those goofy radio contests yesterday while I was waiting on my son to get out of school, and oddly enough I won a CD and an entry into the drawing for a trip to the 42nd Annual ACM awards in Las Vegas. To my surprise (since I've never won anything in my life) they called me a few minutes ago to let me know that I won a trip for two (anyone wanna go?) to Vegas for the May 15th show!
So, any good photo ops in the area? (Other than the Country Music stars that will be swarming all over the place!) Not sure how long the trip will be, as they'll be calling be Monday with details. |

I'd avoid the ACM at all cost and take the time to visit Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, and all the other good stuff. |

You could go to the Stratosphere and take pics from up top. Have fun in Vegas!

Congrats Eric. You are arriving at the wrong time, but that's where I'm flying into for the Red Rock GTG. So, there is a lot to see around Las Vegas. How much time do you have? |

I still have not told Mom about your tatoo. |

Lets see how about the fountains of the Bellagio, a must see ( make sure to take a wide angle lens). The Secrete Gardens at the Mirage, Granted the lions and tigers are in chain link fencing which is a pain in the butt, but talk about up close and personal with dolphins, how about poolside. If you get a chance the Freemont Street Experience, the granddaddy of TV̢۪s is a blast. Las Vegas is also a Street shot Mecca.

We stayed at the Stratosphere last year and I got some great shots from the top of the tower. The rides up there are insane.
If you're a Star Trek fan get over to the Las Vegas Hilton. The Star Trek Experience is great fun.
Aquaknox is an incredible restaurant at the Venetian. Try the Aquatini.
Have a great time! |

Thanks for all the suggestions, and I do plan on making it a point to get some night shots from the Stratosphere. That and the Star Trek Experience, though I'm not sure how Wayne pegged me as a geek after only two days on the GTG in Florida.
Wayne, I'd be happy to grab some cigars for you. Just send me the details and I'll hook you up if I can. It looks like it's going to be three days, flying in on Monday the 14th, attending the show on the 15th and flying back out on the 16th. (Not much time for sightseeing.) :(
Now, if only I can find someone to go with me. Everybody I know is unable to take the time off on such short notice, and they need to know who's going by tomorrow. Any takers in the Charleston area? (Thats not some psycho lunatic. One of those on the trip will be enough, and I have that one locked up myself. :)
(Cindi, still up for it? I'll carry every Nikon that you bring with you. :)

I wouldn't worry about that. I hear you can rent a companion once you get there. |

Hit Zion NP and Bryce Canyon for some great photos. You'll need to rent a car for 2-3 days. |

Well that's just not fair is it? ;) Vegas is great, I don't gamble so when I went it was all about sightseeing. I didn't get to the desert though and was disappointed. You should try to tack a day or two onto each end. Shoudn't cost much since most of the trip is paid.
