Would you be willing to put the meta tag code in the site to eliminate the Internet Explorer Image Toolbar?

Edit: Bad spelling

What is the IE Image Toolbar? I'm using IE 6.

A description of it is available here. The biggest problem with it is the Automatic Image Resizing which can make images looks very poor.

I agree it would be a good idea to force it off on this site and will add it to the list of web site suggestions.

When you hover over an image the toolbar that pops up that gives you options to save, print, email, or open your images folder is the Image Toolbar.

Why would it be a good idea? It doesn't resize the images on this site and turning it off doesn't prevent people from saving, sending, or printing the images here. It's pretty much a non-issue.

Why wouldn't it? That is one of the "features" of the Image Toolbar. From the page I referenced:

If pictures are too large to display in your browser window, automatic resizing makes them fit.

So if somebody is browsing on an 800x600 screen with IE6 and has their IE window in a "non-maximized" state, it is entirely possible that an image displayed while voting could look much worse thanks to on-the-fly resizing artifacts.

At least that is my understanding...

It only resizes an image if that's all you're looking at. In other words, if your url is //www.somesite.org/someimage.jpg, it is open to resizing.

IE will NOT resize images that are included in an html web page, like the images here are.

Gotcha. I immediately disabled both of those features so I was unaware of that distinction.

I guess the only advantage to forcing the Image Toolbar off would be to prevent the little icons from appearing in the top-left corner when your mouse is in the image, since it is trivial to do any of the things the Toolbar allows even if it is off.

Boy this site moves quick. By the time I clicked the post reply button there were already two replies. But the content of my post is now... yeah, what he said. lol

How do I disable those things? I wanna disable, too! It's not fair that EddyG gets to disable stuff, and I don't. All I want is what's coming to me! All I want is my fair share!

Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced tab

Uncheck the "Enable Image Toolbar" in the Multimedia section and restart IE.

Quite honestly, I think the IE toolbar is annoying. Not everyone will disable it in their browser so I add that to the meta tags of all the sites I work on.
