I'm thinking of getting an Epson P-4000 instead of extra memory cards for shooting a wedding. The difficult decision is how long does it take to transfer the files?
Any advice? Share your suggestions, Please!

I currently have a 1 and 2 gig cards. The wedding is June 2nd so I need to get this figured out. If I shoot raw, I definately do not have enough memory. If I reduce it to JPG I would have more shots.
I'm considering getting a couple 16 gig cards so I wont be changing them out in critical situations.

get a few Transcend 4GB cards from newegg for cheap. also you don't have to buy a Epson. You can get a Wolverine 40GB from B&H for about $190 if not less. The main difference is no preview.

I have the P-2000 and the copying from the card is quick. A couple of minutes or so. By the time you fill your next card it'll easily be done and ready to format the card (in camera). Just swap cards and start the process over again.

I want to preview to verify the images are there before wiping the memory card. Does the preview work with the olympus camera raw?

I'm not sure about Olys. It works on Nikon and Canon, but you can't do everything you can doing with .JPG, like zoom in. It does lag trying to preview a bunch of images, but if you've got 5 minutes you can do it.

I have a P-4000. I got it before the new versions came out. If I were looking today I'd go for the P-3000 or P-5000 since those models allow you to zoom on RAW. P-4000 doesn't.

I do this all the time. I use my P-2000 so much that I'll drain the battery. And near the end it may not copy the entire card before powering down (I've also wondered if there were any way I could bump it and cause the copy to be canceled). In any case, being able to preview the images and make sure they are really there gives me a warm fuzzy before deleting. I think without it ... I'd probably buy more CF cards and *never* erase until everything was safely copied to the computer.

And the fact that it preview's raw files is a huge bonus.

As for speed... I find that it copies a 1G card in about 5-8 minutes. What's really nice is that the files copy to the computer even faster. So I always copy all of my cards to the P-2000 when I'm away because even if I only shot one card, it'll upload to my computer faster than if I plugged the card into the card reader on the computer.

Plus, I then, temporarily, have a backup of the CF card. And I won't delete files off the P-2000 until my computer has been backed up at least once. So it all works out good.
