So tonight on the way home from work I notice the F22's sitting on the runway, I quickly get my camera out (I'm not driving) and put on my zoom lens. When I turn it on I realize the settings are still messed up from shooting last night in the gym. I re-adjust the WB and ISO and make sure it's on rapid shot. As I come up on them I see 3 lined up nicely and two more sitting to the side, I quickly start shooting. Since the guy driving can't stop where we are at I just keep taking shots and figure I will look at them later. He finally pulls over into a parking lot so I review the images and...AAAAUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

I realize I had the EV value all the way up to +2.0...crap!.

I was able to get the setting adjusted in time to get this image of some 15's going over...

and this relatively good one

(and before someone says it...I know I should have been shooting RAW but that is now a moot point.)

So I've played with them some but just can't get the sky to recover, even tried b/w but just can't pull it off. I did do some selective color adjustments and added blue to the white level but that looks like total crap.

Anything anyone can do? If you would like the larger original PM me and I'll email it to you or one of the others.

Thank you in advance.

Not sure if my editing is a little un-conventional (does anyone have any pro advice?):

1) Duplicated the layer 2 times and set each layer to multiply. Not sure if this is the same as brightness and contrast. Whilst the grass can be made similar ether way the grey area such as the hills in the distance seem to be better by this method
2) Added a blue to transparent gradient in the sky area on a new layer and again set to multiply, then set it to around 75% (this will depend on the shade of blue you start with).
3) Using hue/sat I then desiderated the whole image until the grass looked natural.
4) A little "dodge-n-burn" on the planes (actually dodge, not burn).
5) a bit of blur on the sky using the blur brush to blend some pixilation.

To be honest, I didn't really read your post, I just made some assumptions as to what you were wanting to do...

I know - my editing is even more unconventional than Nigel's. All those years doodling in junior high school, ya know. :D

Thank you Art, we can always count on you for a good laugh. That is truly classic! I am honored that you took so much time on it.
