Today I listened to Jeff's podcast and he mentioned the Middling Masses Massacre... Gosh, that was a long time ago, it seems!
What was it, you may ask? In the days before the WPL,  DrAchoo set up a head-to-head challenge thing for the top DPC'ers. As one needed to be a pretty solid performer with a fairly high average to play in that game, I set up a separate game with slightly different requirements - no ribbons (except brown), no top tens (well, OK, we decided one was acceptable, as long as it was accidental), and an average below 5.5. Now contrary to what Jeff mentions in the podcast, Team Suck didn't evolve from the Middling Masses, but I think it may have been somewhat inspired by it. I'm taking a modicum of credit anyway. :-)
ANYWAY, the point of this post - what's happened to those that played in the Middling Masses Massacre?? I'm pretty sure our most distinguised graduate is timfythetoo, who now has an average over 6, a slew of ribbons and top tens, and has been doing some really nice work away from challenges (see the 30 Day Portrait project). I'm slightly above the 5.5 mark and have one accidental top ten. I will point out, however, that I did beat Mr Too in our head-to-head match. :-)
