Okay I need some quick advice.

I just ordered a Sandisk 1GB Extreme III CF card from Amazon (bargain) for my S7000 but alas I've just read some things that indicate compatibility issues with CF cardes of this quality with certain cameras.

Will the card be usable with the S7000? I need to know so I can cancel my order if so...

From what I have read it needs to be fat32 compatible. It also needs to be less than 2GB but that's obviously not a problem.

I've found a site that states this...

NOTE: While it has a large, Type II CompactFlash card slot, the S7000 does NOT support the FAT32 file system, so it will only work with memory cards 2GB in size or smaller.

That isn't a problem, so as long as the card is under 2Gb I'll be fine?

Eeek im not sure I had the 3 (6.1 interpolated super-ccd) Fuji S5100 that came out in in 2003. It uses xD only and will only use 512mb cards.

Fuji has been making the switch to SD depending on how old the camera is it should handle 2GB or less.

Well it has a Type II slot and uses XD cards also I've just never bought CF before, I didn't realise there were didferent varieties etc.

So far it's looking OK... it seems that cards over 2GB use a certain kind of compression that the s7000 doesn't support but lower than 2GB should be fine.

Thought I would piggy back onto this thread. When I delete all the photos on my CF card it shows up on the camera as empty. Yet when I load the CF card onto my card reader there is always one shot that shows up each time (the same one). How come my camera doesn't see it and yet my laptop does. How do I get rid of it?

As far as I understand it, the only real way to permanently delete images off your CF card is to reformat it. "Delete", and the data is still there, just "ignored" by the camera. Your Canon should have a reformat function in the menus somewhere.

Although when I "delete" I don't continue to see the images on the card via my laptop - I don't have an explanation for why you do.

I think the 1 G card will work, but you need to format it in the camera before you try to shoot with it.

The pic that will not go away may be "locked", a feature in most digitals that allows you to keep chosen images and delete the rest in one wipe. You may have to find it in playback, unlock it using the camera playback menu choices, then you can erase it. Formatting the card with the camera will usually get rid of locked ones too. Good luck to you both.
