I just bought it tonight. I have no clue what my user name would be or if I even have one for starters. Then with or without a user name my key code won't work. Did anyone else have this problem? Tips? Tricks?

It'd be the email address you registered with, I think.

ETA: I'd be able to tell you for certain, if I hadn't lost all my emails over the weekend. 5 years of software registration info. POOF!

As far as tips and tricks, here's a very comprehensive guide to HDR in general as well as Photomatix Pro:

Hope that helps.

OUCH eug!! I tried the email address I used and that didn't work :( Thank you for the link danheacock! If I could get the darn paid for version open I'd have more fun. I've been using the trial for over a month now and finally decided to buy it. Now I can't get it registered trying everything I know and all their suggestions too. Of course their "quick and prompt support" hasn't responded in over an hour now.

Quick question, will it (single image tonemap) work with jpg? or just RAW??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but jpg out of camera are 8 bit, right? Single image tone mapping works because RAW stores 12 bits but discards 4 to generate an 8 bit jpg. You're just recapturing those extra bits.

I have NO idea, I ask because a few people on here have stated in the past that they had tonemapped a single jpg image, but when I try it all I find is an option for RAW, just thought maybe I was missing something.

It will work on a single 8 bit jpg too

The Photoshop plugin that comes with it only supports 16 bit though.

I bought the stand alone .. the PS plugin is cheaper .. but doesn't do it all so I opted for the stand alone (Pro)

Okay, cool, I have the trial version at this time and am not finding where or how to tone map a jpg, what am I missing? I have PS 7 so plug in is not an option for me anyway, I guess .

You can not tone map a jpg by itself. You must create an HDR or use a raw file.

So, it has to be shot in RAW to begin with? or can it be converted?

Open your .jpg with Photomatrix, click on HDR and then click Generate. Once that is done go back to HDR and click Tone Mapping and make the adjustments you want to the photo.

You must have at lest 2 files to use generate. He only has one.

PhotomatixPro, from the best of my knowledge, will do nothing with a single jpg. You either need a few stepped exposures of the same exact subject (in jpg or raw) or a raw file.

I tried and I can not get it to do much with a single jpg. What are you doing exactly?

Convert the JPG to 16-bit mode and save as a TIFF file in photoshop, then open the TIFF in Photomatix to tone map it. Works much better than trying to map an 8-bit jpg.
