I am at my wits ends tonight. I am having the hardest time creating a web site. I know nothing about web design. I had purchased a domain name and tried to build a site. It sucks and I can't change what I have up. So I took the plunge and got the Pro account at Smugmug. I thought that it would be easy to create a web site through them. Then I would just link my domain name to that page. Well it is not easy I am going crazy here.

Can anyone point me in the right direction before I rip all my hair out.

Here is all I have right now.

I know it stinks and it took me over 2 hours just to get a header made and up.

Well, you seem to have password protected your galleries. Kind of hard to get a good look that way.

Sorry its not the galleries I am having trouble with. It is the general look of the page.

The password to portraits in tyler123 and to family is austin123
Just in case you want to look at the rest of it.

First of all relax. If you have yahoo chat I will be in there in about 30 minutes. Look me up. rex07734

Going to browse your page now and see if I can suggestg any ideas for you.

Anything in particular you are wanting?

Also what domain name did you purchase and who did you purchase it through?

Its very hard if you dont know CSS or HTML at all I was also getting very frustrated. Read the //www.dgrin.com forums you can find out alot there. It took me forever to get my smugmug site done, you can take a look at my site //www.lamontphotography.com and see if there is anything you like and ask me if see anything you like. I cant promise you anything but the I can look at my CSS codeing and see what I can do.

I asked alot of question on the smugmug forums (www.dgrin.com) and did alot of reading, there is so much info their and a guy buy the name of andy on their is kind of a smugmug master.

Thanks, All I am wanting to do right now is make the links go to a seperate page. I think I am heading in the right direction. I was able to get links to show up but they don't go anywhere.

I am just frustrated I guess. Its been a long day. I think I need a glass of wine and to go to bed.

I don't have Yahoo chat but thank you. Plus I have to get these kids to bed soon. I think all there yelling in the other romm is making this worse.

They all go to the same place. Put the address to the page you want it to go to between the quotation marks after href=.

Don't give up on SmugMug too soon. I think they are great!

Thanks, I put that there to get the bar up. I am trying to figure out how to make a page to have it go to. I guess that you can do that threw smugmug but I am having trouble figuring out how.

From what I have read you create a new gallery and under the info creat html data. (Sorry if I don't know the technical wording here. I have no clue what I am talking about.) and then once you create a page in that html data you link one of those buttons to that file as a picture.

I bet what I just wrote sounds crazy but I think I am on the right track. I am going to call it a night and get these kids to bed. I will work on it more tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for putting up with my craziness tonight. I am normal I promise.

I can't give up on smugmug. I spent to much money on it tonight. :)

Check out numbers 39 and 41 here.

Here is what you need to do to fix the nav. bar and make it navigate right.

First make a new gallery and make it private.

In the description put something in there about yourself. Take note of the number at the end of the gallery. E.G.: //www.yourwebsite.smugmug/gallery/######

Under the CSS box in your control panel type this:

/* html only page for gallery XXXXXX */
.gallery_1692046 .nophotos { display: none; }

The above code will get rid of the "There are no photos in this gallery" that smugmug automatically places in your gallery when there are no photos.

Once that is done in your header section type this:

  • About

  • Just make sure you put the gallery you just made about you in the "" marks and not mine.

I couldn't ask for a better looking groupie.

But on the smugmug note when you start chaning colors on your text on your nav bar this website:

    //html-color-codes.com/

will be your best friend. And Cindi gave that to me a while back.

I just got my smugmug site up and would love to hear from you guys that are great at this. Your site rocks Cindi. Of course my photo's don't come close to yours, but I am learning.

I have the power user account and I know there is a hack to add a 'right click' message, but have not been able to find it. Any help there?
    04/16/2007 09:54:52 PM · #18
Here is a custom right click protect for everyone.

Enter the bold in your footer section and change the message to match what you want.

Also keep in mind I am not a master at this. I have just picked up some code here and there from other people and caught on to some of it myself. But I am not stingy and will share.

You guys are wonderful. I am off to try that now. The kids are asleep so I might be able to get something done while it is peaceful.

Cindi- Your site is great. I looked at it about a month ago and that is one of the things that talked me into going Pro.
    04/16/2007 09:59:21 PM · #20
Rex- I just looked at your site and that is amazing. I think I would like to be one of your groupees too. :)

Ok I got the link to work to send right to my portrait page and my family page.

Next question: How do you get the slide show on the main page rather then what is up there by default?
    04/16/2007 10:17:28 PM · #25
Thanks for your help tonight. I will read on dgrin.com to see what I can figure out.

Thank you so much for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
