I was totally comatose last night, but miserable at work today with the sinuses going nuts. Trying the Claritin, sans D, because I'm desperate. So far so good.

I used to drink a pot of coffee before bed every night and slept like a baby.

Alas those days are over though, now I can't drink caffeine at all :(

One thing I have found that works very well for me though is the neuro programmer. I know brainwave entrainment sounds kinda hokie but I sleep better than I ever have now that I use it throughout the night. It helps me wake up in the morning too.

Edit: and I know their website seems a bit cheesy but there's real science behind this stuff.

I usually try and keep a prescription of Imovane laying around. Easy to get when you have been diagnosed with severe anxiety though.

Although most doctors will give you one if you explain you haven't been sleeping at all. It's the most common short-term sleep aid prescription going right now.

It goes by brand names as well, of course, and is also known as Zopiclone

When I can't sleep, I threaten myself with any heinous work/chores I have carefully avoided during the day. Usually works. If it doesn't, I stare at the backs of my eyelids and try to make out the colors and shapes, and if there aren't any, I try to visualize some.

I'm a big fan of Blue Planet. While it is also a quality documentary (from the 10 or 15 minutes of every episode I've seen) the narrator's voice is very soothing. Perfect for sleepless nights! Although, if it's a really bad night for me, I wake up when the show ends or my partner turns it off.

I always say pot cured my insomnia. That's the ony time I smoke it. 2 or 3 hits off the ol' pipe when I absolutely can't sleep, and 20 minutes later I'm out cold.

Other times I lay on the couch with my pillow and blankey and watch really boring movies on cable with the volume low.
