What do you think of this baby announcement?

(EDIT: after reviewing advice from Art, I can't stand the colors in this image, see the better examples I put together down below - leaving this one here to "learn from")

Pictures from the family I posted in this thread.

Nicely done!
Another 4 months and I have to do one of those when my neice arrives.

This was put together in Fotofusion ... all except the box that outlines the entire thing. I couldn't figure out how to do that. So I exported from Fotofusion to a .PSD photoshop file and drew a box there and used "layer effects" to create a drop shadow on it.

Thanks for the tip, appreciate it.

My honest opinion: I don't like the color (a more muted pink would be my pref), I don't like the drop shadows on the text and I don't like the frame around the pics or its drop shadow and I don't care for the font nor the underline below the main text at the top and some of the text is too close to the edges of the images.

Dang! That's the most negative I've been in a long time! I'll try to offset with some positives: I LOVE the images! I like the arrangment of the images and I even like the drop shadow on the images AND the baby is beautiful! :)

Take it for what it's worth, but I think you got trigger happy with the drop shadow. :) ...but again, on a positive note, at least you didn't bevel everything! :)

Well, of course the shots are wonderful, and I like the layout, but I do find the text hard on the old eyes. Maybe a darker pink on lighter pink background? I just find it a bit glary.

On the whole, though, I like :)

I have to agree about the colours on this one, maybe something a little lighter would make the card look alot softer.. I really like the layout and of course the bubba is so cute!
I am always trying to come up with different ideas for announcement cards so here a few of mine for some ideas for you..All done in photoshop. (hope you dont mind me posting them here).

Thanks Bec and BeeCee. Also thanks to Art. In spite of being negative, he also privately sent me some examples of what he meant. All of which was very helpful. This was my first adventure into anything like this and so all of your feedback has been very helpful.

THANKS! :-)

Okay, based on Art's creative advice, I produced two more examples (and after seeing these I realize how ghastly my colors looked before):

One more...

These new ones are great David.. I really like the one with the black and white.. They seem to flow very nicely and have a nice soft delicate feel to them. Great Job!

Oh, wanted to ask...Do you just print these on photo paper or are they printed on card..And what size do you normally do these?

My plan is to print these as 5x7's. That's how I did the couple's engagement pictures and when they asked for ideas on a baby announcement, they brought up the engagement picture as an example. They were in a hurry for the engagement pictures (got married 6 days after they had me take the pictures!) so I hope to be able to "shop around" a bit more for them on these.

I like the final editions a lot, very classy looking, especially the black background one. Both have much better colors that allow you to enjoy looking at it without huring your eyes. Helps keep the attention on the baby. Great job!

p.s. got to love the creative minds we have here, always love getting input from them.

Creatively speaking ... I feel I don't even come close. I often feel I am a much better "technician" than artist. But the many bits of feedback and wisdom I have gleaned from the folks here at DPC over the last 3 years has really helped me a lot!

Very nice work on the changes :)
The black is very elegant, and I think *I* like it best because there are no other colours competing with the baby's skin tones, but I suspect that the average "non-photographer" might prefer the last one.
It's just a touch more traditional, and we're programmed to expect pink for girls :)
If I were the parents, I'd be thrilled :D
