AARRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!! My Powershot S2 IS has fallen prey to the dreaded E18 error...it wouldn't be so bad, but this is the second camera it has happened to.
My first camera (powershot A80) also got the E18 error, but I was very rough with it. It got drop kicked by a horse, rolled it sand, got water on it, got baked and frozen in harsh weather, and had superglue spilled on it. It suprisingly still works, but it got the error after some sand got in the sensor and now it only works when it decides it wants to. I didn't bother getting it repaired because I was ready for a new camera anyway and THOUGHT I'd be safe with a newer model.
Ugh, guess I was wrong. I've been very careful with my S2 IS, but unfortunately it fell off of my friends couch (1 ft drop at most) in February and has been acting weird ever since. Then today when I'm shooting for the landscape challenge, it just all went to hell. The lens won't go back in at all and it won't shoot anything either.
Luckily my A80 was having a good day and I just used it to finish shooting, but now I have to get my S2 IS repaired, and I'm not exactly sure how to go about it. I assume I pack it and send it to Canon, but I was looking thru the box it came in and realized that I never shipped the warranty (OOPS!). Can I still send it even though it's been 7 months since I bought it? If I don't send in the warranty, how much do you think will it cost? Can I get this done somewhere locally for less and at the same quality?
...omg, so frustrating...can't wait till I get a SLR that doesn't have a retractable lens...grr.
