What do you think of these two photos? Is the closer view better than the further view?

It was hard to get a shot without foliage in the foreground because construction was being done to the site.

I think I like the composition of the second one more, and also the exposure looks better too (less washed out colours).

I like the second one better, also.

Thanks for the quick responces. Any advice on how to fix the first photo?

Fix the exposure?
Just a slight brightness/contrast adjustment should do it.

Bring brightness down about 5 and contrast up about 5.

If that fails, just fiddle about with different values, or try 'Auto Levels'.

Well, not to add to your dilemma, but I MUCH prefer the first one!

I think it provides a lovely lush context for the falls. The composition is better balanced (though the falls is more centered, the whole landscape is more majestic and stunning).

Also, when I looked carefully, the second, closer one shows more quality issues, perhaps because it is larger here, or perhaps its oversharpened slightly. I think the textures of the greenery on the farther view are fantastic.

Personally, I don't see much to fix in that one.

Regards--Neil

Get closer to the falls, try different angles from the bottom and maybe wait for fog or sunset/sunrise sky colors :-)

Thanks for the tips.

I guess all that's left to do is go back this weekend and try to combine everything into one photo.
