I just saw this guy on TV. He was in the "jungle" photographing snakes. He was using a lens about the same size as my macro lens, and his onboard flash. All I could think was, yeah, I've done that and I got a big, arched shadow across the middle of the shot from the lens.

Is this guy really a photographer? There's no way that lens wouldn't have interfered partially with the flash. Am I crazy?

He seems like a real drama-king, which I find entertaining, and enjoy all on its own. :-)

edit.......... here's a link to the Discovery website about him.

I've watched his show on Discovery channel. He know his stuff about reptiles, but photography? I'm just not too sure about that one.

I cannot stand him - Every thing is hyped up in chasing the snakes - I flicked the channel yesterday and saw him taking pictures of a flying snake up in the air with a small zoom lens - RIGHT.
What a joke. Get a hair cut, stop sweating and give someone good the airtime.
Phew - Got that rant off my chest. Even if he wasn't photographing snakes i find the show sooooooooooo over the top.
I wish my long term TV idol Steve Irwin was still around.

Austin Steven's - Fake master!

Amazing how tastes differ.... I hated Steve Irwin's escapades with such a passion, I refused to listen to or watched any of his products.

To me most of these so called 'adventures', antics, hype or whatever you want to call it, is nothing but a money making racket. Almost like religion.... ;-)

Maybe someone would be so kind as to show me any positive, long term and sustainable result from these so called conservationists, any real impact any of them have made. And please do not think 'creating awareness' is an argument, it is just like preaching to the converted.

(And knowing my friends, I now better start running ;-P

I watched Stevens' show a few times. I got tired of his overly dramatic setups.

He sees the rare venomous snake from 500 yards away...he dashes through the jungle...jumps off the 30' cliff into the dark water below...will he survive? Will he come back up? Did the snake eat him? Oh, no, the waiting is killing me!...and he surfaces with the deadly reptile perfectly captured in his hand.
