I'd go with the Canon since then you could swap lenses between it and your Rebel.

Also, maybe look for an Elan II/IIE ( I think that's the Elan 50/50E outside North America). The body would be around 50 pounds or less.

The old Pentax SLR's are very nice and came with a very sweet 50mm F1.4 lens!

I notice that the only lense you have listed is an EF-S lens for your Canon, so you won't be able to use that on any Canon film body you buy. Still, since you've already got a Canon DSLR, there is no point in getting a non-Canon film SLR (or even an older Canon FD-mount film slr), unless you have some particular desire to collect a certain film model. Go with a used Canon EOS SLR and you will be able to use any lenses you purchase for it on your DSLR as well.

If lens compatibility really isn't a concern for you, then you might want to look at the older Canon manual focus SLRs. I own a couple of AE-1s, and can tell you that they are great cameras. Because the lenses for these older manual focus cameras use the FD mount, which isn't compatible with the newer film and digital cameras, there is a lot of GREAT glass out on the used market that can be had for a song. You can put together a very professional FD film kit for a few hundred dollars. KEH.com is an excellent source for used camera gear, much better than eBay IMHO, especially for the older stuff as KEH will be excrutiatingly honest with you about any problems the gear may have.

Good luck and congratulations on your film camera purchase. I still shoot my film cameras extensively, although mostly just black and white film these days. Film and digital are both great, but different, and shooting both will teach you things that shooting only one format can't.

I picked up a Canon Elan IIe off eBay for about $60 a few months back for a class I'm taking. It's rather fun, and a good solid camera. The eye-controled focus is sorta' neat, but honestly it doesn't work so great all the time, so I wouldn't not buy a camera that didn't have it.

I'll also throw out here that the Elan is a fully automatic camera, although it does have M, Av, and Tv modes. But it takes a battery, has a meter, a motor drive, etc. But a girl in my class just got her grandfather's old camera that's TOTALY manual, no battery, and a seperate drive unit, and there's something cool about that. And I think sometimes it would be nice to have a non-electronic camera.

Just a few things to think about :-)
