Being both a photo and photoshop noob, I rarely have the opportunity to give back. I will try to offer small tidbits more often though, if I can.

There are several posted methods of Black/White conversion on this site. I will offer a couple more that I just stumbled upon.

1. New Adjustement layer - Gradient map. NORMAL mode. Select the black to white grad and no gradient options. This creates a somewhat harsh and contrasty BW. You can then use that image to execute another form of BW conversion as well.

2. And this is a strange one. Copy the layer. Make sure that Window-styles is showing. Select the sepia style. It makes a rather nice sepia image.
