Myself and 6 or so guys that i went to schoool with are in need of an awesome nature / adventure / camping experience for a few days this summer (probably a long weeken of 3 days or so).

Somewhere that would be a decent distance for people travelling from NE Ohio, NJ, Mass, and upstate PA. Anyone have any ideas? All ideaes welcome.

South Central Ontario may be too far for you to travel, but Algonquin Park is a great camping/adventure destination.

How about somewhere along the Appalachian Trail. It passes through all of the states mentioned except Ohio. You could make it an annual thing until you see all 2000 miles of it.

If you can stretch that long weekend to 4 or 5 days and you want something totally different I would highly recommend an Outward Bound Wilderness course. Check out this one in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I did it many years ago although mine was 25 days long.

If it isn't too far Wisconsin is just what you are looking for.

Thanks for all the feedback! - and I welcome more â€Â¦

This might be TMI but I wanted to give a bit of background: We used to go up to Ontario and meet up with a Canadian group of friends at the same spot - sadly, my college roomy from Canada died in a car accident and he was pretty much the main reason we'd go up there - I'm considering another trip there but I thought maybe a new direction might be nice. We went there the next year but it was rough and seemed sorta like a swan song for that whole thing.

Here's a site i found about the area of which I speak: Lake McCrae - Ontario Canada It almost brings a tear to my eye just seeing these pics - they are dealing with issues with snowmobiles as you might read.

We are pretty independent thinkers who are frugal and spontaneous and still like to party a bit. I'd love more info on any of these places that might accomodate. Thanks so much.

Michigan's UP is an amazing place.

Actually, so is most of the Lower Peninsula. but it gets better the farther north you go.

If you want a real adventure, you can camp on some of the islands. I especially suggest Isle Royal

My family heads to Allegheney State Park every fall. They have a variety of cabins and alot to do. Its on the border of NY and PA. Bradford and Salamanca are the two closest towns. Red House is the name of the town/area that we camp in. Could be a good inbetween. Ryan cabins rock!

My family has a cabin in Pymatuming. It's the largest lake in Pennsylvania and is on the boarder of PA/OH. I love it there.
