I was wondering if there is a way to calculate the average vote cast by all members during the life of DPC... and maybe a percentile of the single votes in the lifetime of the site |

Most of the information you'll need is right here. |

You might be able to post this into an excel file. Delete everything except the Avg Vote column. Then use an excel formula to average the whole thing out.
Its not 100% what your looking for but it will give the average score for all challenges combined. |

Actually, the history table won't quite get you there. It's close enough, but not precisely correct.
"Average score" probably means "average of the average scores:"
add up all the average scores shown on each entry and divide by the number of entries
as opposed to a true average score: add up all the votes in the entire challenge and divide by the total number of votes.

Please tell me you didnt just sit down and do the math. I think someone had a DPC site statistics website one time. But thats besides the point. |

Thank you very much!
I'm not good at math, so I can't see the difference between the average of the average score and the average of all the votes, but anyway I think that it would not be much different...
Something above 5 is the average... voters are severe! In Italian high school you must have at least a 6 to pass exams, and it's bad that the average DPCer does not deserve that!
EDIT TO ADD:
I'm to be included in those severe voters: I just saw that my average vote cast is 5.8! :)

Same in the US although it would be 60% instead of 6. |

Yes, DPC voters are hard scorers. Just forget about comparing to grading schemes anywhere.
But even compared to other photo sites, DPC scores are low. Shots of mine that score 6 here routinely get 8s and 9s on three other sites.
It doesn't matter, of course, as long as a site can separate really good from good from so-so from not good.
But know the scoring tendencies here before looking at challenge scores. 6+ is a good score, 6.5+ is a great score, and 7+ is a phenomenal score.

Well, I'm somehow glad about that. It pushes me better to try to improve ;) |

Oh, I agree. Doesn't bother me a bit. It does bother me on some sites where everyone gives everyone 9s. It doesn't send any signal to people about what they need to work on.
The only problem I've seen is when new DPC members post that they're crushed because their first score is so low, not understanding the meaning of DPC scores.
