I'm in for Silky-Smooth with an unconventional shot. I don't expect it to do well.

As for Sports, doing quite well but it is more of just a technical photo.

My DPL is in the dumps at 4.8333, but considering I really like the photo the score doesn't bother me.

Also have a fellow DPC member inspired photo from FreeStudy, not saying the member's name because it "might" give away the photo. Pretty happy about the shout though.

Cheers all. I need to catch up on the Dr. Seuss entries (comments).

hey hywind - you will see all your team's entries at the bottom of the thumbnail page when you vote on the challenge - and the private team thread is under the 'League' menu, link on the left.

don't worry kelli! i bet it pops back up.

i'm not sure whether mine will go over 5... i just hope that Q_O likes it ;-)

nightie and have fun, y'all

Yeah, and make sure you put it in your workshop folder so that nobody else can see.

I'll answer anything else in the private thread.

Next time I get kinda excited about a challenge entry, will you all kindly remind me that I really shouldn't.

"She was last seen muttering 'I just don't get whatever it is I just don't get' while wandering off into the distance...."

But I did get a comment from a Sucker, so that's good.

I absolutely hate that feeling.
*hugs*

edit: not the excited feeling, but the other thing.

It really does make Mondays more blah than they already are. On the plus side, based on my usual disappointment with Mondays, I rarely am disappointed on Wednesday mornings, since by then I don't care as much for that entry based on Monday's results. It's an interesting cycle, but it works!
Edit to add I'm not bitching about my score per se - it was 5.8 when I turned off scores - but bitching about my freakin' expectations. I really, really thought this might be a "new top row" entry. I accept that my score is accurate - "it is what it is" as my boss likes to say. It's my judgement that's faulty! :-)

My camera won't turn on.
And it's not the batteries.
:-(

That stinks!! And at the beginning of DPL. I hope that you find out what the problem is quickly and that it is something easy to fix. Keep us updated.

Do you have another camera to use in the meantime?
05/14/2007 03:25:23 AM · #2112
That REALLY stinks, Kelly. Is there a way you can check the contacts to make sure they're clean? That's the only thing I can think of other than something has simply disconnected from the on/off switch.
05/14/2007 04:29:01 AM · #2113
Yeah, kinda bad timing. Hrm.
I don't have any other photographic equipment at all besides the one camera. No moneys, hehe!

Discontinued cameras usually aren't servicable, are they?

Contacts - that would be the place where the camera and batteries connect? I can check that :-)

What sort of batteries does it take?

05/14/2007 06:14:18 AM · #2115
ooo, i hope it comes back to life. how frustrating!

don, i'm sorry, i didn't recognise you in the seuss challnege, but deb thought she did too, with the same image. and you gave it a blue ribbon all your own. so, at least i know i was on the right track.

Thanks for your time commenting on my old building shots. That was an experiment with both shooting and processing as I was not shooting for a challenge. It was also sort of a test, of myself, and I passed......the one shot with the light and the greenish cast didn't quite fly in my book either, but I wanted to get the reaction to that and the others simultaneously......and I read the reaction right.

You guys have become invaluable in teaching me what works and what doesn't and I was very grateful for your comments.

I also much appreciate the suggestions and will be putting them to good use.

I have a whole town full of these buildings from another era and am looking forward to seeing what I can do.

Oh, and by the way......kudos to all you "Professionals" who are having problems with the narrow-minded, pedantic clerks who are boitter at seeing the fine work you do and won't print it.

A PITA, but back-handed compliments all the same!

Thank you silverfoxx for the really nice comment on my DPL album cover.

My initial disappointment has been tempered slightly by two things - the score appears to be going up a little (based on my running average), and I looked at it on my work monitor and there's a (to me) glaring technical flaw that I didn't notice at home. Sometimes when I spend too much time on a picture, I fail to see the obvious. That, and my monitor at work is much lighter than the one at home. Live and learn!

I know what you mean. My monitor at home is different from others and I have been burned by that before.

What I need to remember to do is upload to my workshop then view it on my laptop before I submit. My laptop has a much lighter screen and shows things quite differently than my home monitor. I'll add this to my mental checklist. The problem is my mental checklist keeps getting misplaced.... :-)

Have you tried stapling it to your forehead? ;P

My grandmother sent me to the store for 3 things yesterday, she said "do you want to write it down?"... I answered "it's only 3 things", I got to the store and for the life of me couldn't remember one of the things and had to call her! D'oh!

Oh, I can so relate. Go to the store, I only need three things. Can't for the life of me remember what they are so I just buy stuff and hope I've got it covered. Methods like this are how I end up with more toilet bowl cleaner than a person ever really needs. This is especially true if one shops at places like Costco (which thankfully they don't have here.) In fact, true story - I knew I needed toilet bowl cleaner, so I picked up a four pack (heck, it's cheaper than 1 1/2 at the grocery store price), only to discover I'd done the same thing a couple of weeks prior. That year, each member of my family got a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner in the box of stuff I sent for Christmas. The next year, by the way, it was the canned air used for cleaning computers and such....

Hi all!

LOL Deb, remind me to be on the lookout for TB cleaner if I get any care packages from you!

I'm in for DPL, at 4.8 right now, should do well *knocks on wood* Dr Seuss finished at 5.2 so I'm happy.

Busy today but will get back later tomorrow or sometime soon to tell you all about this AMAZING photog I met this weekend, who's been doing it for 40 some years - he used to teach classes so I'm sure I can learn a ton from him.

Bye for now all, gonna try and vote before I leave!

LOL that's funny about the TB cleaner, Deb!

The trend is downward, so thinking this one likely won't break into 5 territory. On the bright side, all comments are positive.
