very nice pics, jeb.

don, when did you become don giovanni - how very mozart-ian of you. do we have a team spleen thread yet? i do like the logo - rather gilliam-esque.

going to move more furniture from my parent's house. it's amazing how much stuff two people can amass - and that includes losing almost everything in a fire! ah well, their house is empty, mine is becoming very full. but, we have to empty it, so we can become landlords.

o joy o bliss.

oooo, i can't wait to be hammered for my DPL - this pic is so not what i've been doing lately, but it was the right image for the challenge - in my opinion - which, of course, isn't really worth that much...

but just looking at it makes me smile, so, come on 1 am......

Can I see? Where is this logo? As a fan of all things Gilliam...just curious.

Jeb, what a photographic wealth you have in that abandoned building - those types of locations seem to be becoming more and more scarce. I left some comments. :)

Looks like you have a good location there, Jeb! Very useful for all kinds of shots and very atmospheric.

Been out today, braved the pouring rain to try and get my DPL shot sorted. Not quite the shot I wanted, but it looks alright. Think I may have some explaining to do afterwards, but it fits the challenge to a 'T'

NikonJeb left you a comment. What an amazing space, and well seen.

Jeb, I'm not a fan of crusty old dirty relics, but this building has some great light, textures, lines, and contrasts. You should get a lot of good interesting images from it.

From DPL FAQ:
10 - How do we get a forum thread? And is it private?
Your team will automatically get a forum thread created once the season starts - assuming your team is finalised - and will be hidden from all other DPC users APART FROM the Site Council, who will only read the threads for moderation purposes.

The DPL season starts Monday, May 14. Reminder to DPL-OOFs, load your pre-challenge photographs into your workshop portfolio only.

Is that how we're sharing? Should I load it in workshop and then PM the link to all the team members? Did I miss a PM somewhere?

I just bought my wife a new $30,000+ minivan. Now it̢۪s my turn, and I hope to have help deciding what is more important to help me as a photographer. I have a Xti, a 70-200 F4L, and a 50 F1.4 .What I wish to know is should I now buy-
1) a external flash
2) a better tripod ( I have a cheep Wal-Mart one now)
3) a good wide angle zoom
Most of you know me at least a little, so your input would help a lot..

you don't have to pm your teammembers. just post a thumb on your private thread.

I'd go with #1, then #3, as long as #2 is working for you for now.

LOL I wish, but I still have to pay for the minivan..

I'm, thinking the flash also.

1) 580 Speedlite and Softbox kit, Fong it, and a transmitter (need to research this a bit) Reflector Kit
2) Bogen/Manfrotto tripod with a ballhead and carrying case
3) super wide lens sample photos

The portability of the flash is nice but it helps to get it off the camera and soften the output to avoid the "deer-in-the-headlights" syndrome.

It will make more sense tomorrow.

Really depends what you want to shoot, naturally.

However, the canon 10-22 EF-S is a super wide angle, and will combine nicely with your 400D.

I took my 12-24 for a walk last night (initially in order to photograph some bookshelves I made) and it was still dangling off the end of the camera today. Great thing to have.

The two shots of people at the table could have used som flash, so I'm not helping your dilemma, maybe. Good luck with your retail therapy ::)

I love my 10-22. I did get a decent tripod, but only because Bear made me. He kept calling my lovely K-Mart one (even before the days of WalMart, I believe) a "piece of shit tripod". Hurt it's feelings and everything. I still don't have off-camera flash. I guess it depends on what kind of stuff you want to work on first - get whatever supports that first!

I think it will be the 580 EX, and the P4 Lightsphere for now, would love the lenses, but not now. I can possibility even slip in the tripod, we will see after the Wife comes back from vacation next week.
I owe- I owe so off to work I go ( to the melody of Hi- ho from Cinderella)..

Well, I dithered and slightly changed my DPL entry - for the better, I think, in some respects, but the (for me) radical entry is now slightly less radical. Still WTF caliber, but a potentially more pleasing-to-the-eye WTF. I am cowardly, I guess - I have not yet achieved a true understanding of the Principle of Suck. :) But I included the original entry in my comments, so after voting is over you'll all be able to tell me if I made the better choice or not.

On another note, I built my own light tent this weekend, and thought the process was simple enough that I built a couple more free-standing diffusing screens in addition, so I'm all set - now I just need better lights. :D If anyone's interested, it's an easy process, and not very expensive:

As for graphics or something like that, there's the 100x100 logo if you want it. Myself, I think I'm just going to do a text link like the others in my signature. I think probably if you didn't want a logo so big you could take it and crop it so it's just the center gasp, if you wanted.

Crap, I broke up the DPL as part band name and part album title, although it isn't necessarily obvious from the photo - I think it could be interpreted either way. Hope it won't get me in DQ problems, had enough of that with my grain challenge to last a long time.

I changed the name of my band for that reason. The "L" was going to be "Live" rhymes with "Give" but I though people would take it as rhymes with "Hive" and I would get DNMC'd because that would be the album title and not the name of the band. So, I just came up with a new name.
