I know scores shouldn't be important. They really, really shouldn't. But they sure seem to get me down when I have hopes that something will do at least reasonably decently. I will enter Sports, because I like what I ended up with. Have quite a few shots I like, actually. And every once in awhile I do get a pleasant surprise, like the Symmetry entry which is scoring better than expected. I sure as heck can't tell what will do well and what won't, though! |

Deb, I'm often inspired by your photos. Everyone goes through rough patches artistically, where they question their own merit and abilities. I can assure you the rest of us are not questioning those traits in you at all. I bet you'll emerge stronger than ever. You are one of the "anchors" here. You rock! |

Deb, I'm still sitting over here in the corner sulking but I've got chocolate and tissues and I'm hanging in here, have some chocolate. So how to cope with the low moments I'm not sure I can help you with, what I can tell you is that you are one of the people that inspires me to hang in here and to believe that I'll improve. You are a rock to Team Suck you have such a wonderful unflappable style about you that comes through your art. It's be such a shame if you stopped entering challenges but sometimes a wee break is nice, just shoot for yourself for awhile and when you have something that will fit a challenge then enter. If only the cream of the DPC crop entered the challenges would be dull indeed, we need different kinds of art and different perspectives, believe it or not, we are not all besotted with the perfect travel catalogue landscapes and glossy images some of enjoy finding the quieter more reflective shots amongst the glitz. |

I'm sure you know really Melethia what sort of style you would need to stick to in order to create a mass-appeal photo. So really it's that choice if you want to be aiming your work towards that, or just shoot what you feel, and enter challenges with the result.
I know which one I'd prefer to do, and I think you do too, just that, like you say, sometimes the scores grate on you. But it's just numbers. |

Deb, I'm currently down about my free study being under 5, but I realize that it's an odd photo and making a reference that nobody is going to get. I now have three "wtf" comments, so at least somebody noticed it! I enter challenges hoping to appeal to a small number of people who are bored with DPC-normal.
For competition like DPC, you need to adjust your expectations to something that will get fulfilled at least sometimes (but not too often, or it doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment). It seems impossible for me to get over 6 anymore. If I ever do, I'll be thrilled, but I also consider it a success to get a cool comment or a favorite during a challenge. This happens often enough for me to keep playing, at least for now. |

I know what you mean about at least getting some sort of recognition. I had hopes of that (a comment or two) for my Free Study, but have only 1 comment so far. Alas, I really did enjoy the shooting aspect of it and do like the result so I shan't complain.
By the way - very cool triptych. :-) |

Don, you said it all right there.
I know what Deb means though. I've entered close to 50 challenges so far and I only have one (1) six to show for it. I like the stuff that I shoot but very few others do. Thank God for Team Suck is all I can say. |

NO!
Keep punishing those voters with your interesting and evocative shots. They deserve it for not recognizing and appreciating your talent.

It's also nice to see the Team Suck perspective on challenge themes once voting is done. I know that's my highlight of challenges.

Oh, I won't leave. I enjoy commenting and seeing the work everyone does here. I just don't really enjoy the challenges very much these days. |

Here's a BBBIIIGGG smiley from me.

Deb, If I had your talent, then.......I guess I would have your talent.
But anyway, you better keep entering your shots. I keep entering my shots and people don't like them either. Sometimes, even I don't like them. Tonight, I hope to get my prize winning sports shot. The big question is "What the hell is the prize going to be?" |

Perhaps I'm just in a seriously gray mood and should stay away from DPC for awhile... :-) |
Been through the "DPC Blues" meself a couple times, but I've finally realized that this placve is my support group and knowledge base on multiple levels.
Deb, you have nothing to agonize over at all. Just keep doing this for you, get the feedback you need and want here, and keep developing who you ar as a photographer with the help of the folks here that have a grasp of what it's like in the real world.
I just went through a spell of suck with my last four entries, and oh well.....it just happens, and I forsee a dry spell what with the genre of challenges.
BUT.....I just went to a GTG, I see another one in the near future, and life is going along just fine uin spite of what happens at DPC.
Take heart, dear friend, I love your stuff, and so do the rest of us.
That flower patch was one of the best pictures I've seen in a long time......I'm proud to see that it's a TSer that did it!

Another thing worth remembering is that dpc is one place where more than the average number of photos come out with what you might consider an "average" score. A lot of other places pander more to the photogs. |

Deb, I can't think of anything to say beyond what's been said. Keep entering if you want the feedback. But you're not wasting anyone's time regardless.
Greetmir, FYI: this is the peace sign. It doesn't really make a triptych. The evenly cut circle is the sign of Mercedes Benz, though. So people may not have understood your "peaceful" reference.

Deb - you rock and you are a good photog. Keep on truckin.
Remember that being an engineer means you have ingrained in you to analyze what you are putting together and that everything fits in it's place. (Ok well that describes me and if it works for you - cool!). Voters don't like to analyze - which I have come to accept as being fine! I'm at the point now where I look forward to the comments I get AFTER the challenge.

Gotta say you guys are pretty cool. :-)
My Seuss be suckin' but that's based on my interpretation more than my picture. (Shoehorn, anyone?) My sports will suck, but it's kinda nifty just the same. Still have to decide which one I'll stick in there. Can't say I'm excited about next week's member challenge. Think I'll leave that one to those playing that game.
And in other exciting news, I bought a fan today, thereby ensuring that Europe will have a lovely cool, temperate summer. You all can thank me later. (And Shez, I really do like it here a lot, but I do kinda get a wee bit lonely sometimes!) |

Definitely the highlight for me too! It is interesting to see such a wide breadth of styles. It's almost like a mini challenge.
Deb, I'll give you a comment on your FreeStudy once voting is done. There are just too many Free Study entries though to actually go and comment. I only have 2 comments myself. Right now the 30 day B&W has me so busy just with commenting on comments I received.
Also have an entry in for Sports. I like the entry though it is a fairly typical sports image. |

One of your Team Suck members levyj413 suggested that I might want to stop in and see if I could join. My scores are a bit erratic, but mostly sucky.

Your initation ritual is to write an original poem, essay or shopping list with the title "What Suck Means To Me" |

{{{{{{big hugs}}}}}} to you! You're just having a bad day, take it from someone who's had quite a few lately. The challenges wouldn't be the same without me looking for the unique perspective of Deb! I'm getting pretty good at spotting them, but don't comment until after (when I remember to go back to comment) since I don't want even the appearance of impropriety! |

I am having lots of fun with the b/w 30 day challenge. There is no way that I'll be able to comment on all of the photo's, and won't say any thing about post processing as that I suck at. Thanks to all my suck friends who are doing this also and have commented on my pics. I'm trying to get to all the ones but I think that I should sleep and eat some time ;) |
