I have to share some happy news - sorry for personal horn-tooting - I just got notified that I have three photos in finals on //www.betterphoto.com the month! One is "flight risk" photo of seedpod, one is my grain photo that got DQ'd, and one is the photo I entered here for best of 2006.

There were more than 23,000 entries, so I'm really excited. Don't imagine I'll progress to win prizes, but getting to finals makes me really happy.

Congrats! That is really exciting. Who chooses the pictures? Are the finalists up so we can see?

I'm in for 3rds, though not with as nice a shot as I had hoped to get earlier. Maybe I'll get 3rd from Brown..

BTW - I switched out entries in bubbles at the last minute - I'm really interested to see how it will be received. I'm stretching my boundaries, which is a good thing, scores be damned, right? :-) This is one that I suspect will be loved or hated, little middle-ground. But there is no predicting the voters here.

BTW, colorcarnival asked how photos are selected for finalist at //www.betterphoto.com. There is a panel of professional photogs who also teach courses there who judge.

Edit for fat-fingering

Ok - so I read this in here a while ago. And just a bit ago I was posting a note in our team thread to tell the captain where the DPL/WPL forum link was. As I was typing those 6 letters, I heard "dipple-wipple" in my head.

Look what you guys have done to me already lol.

I also saw photos by SandyP, Librodo and timfythetoo as finalists. All of theirs are under the people section, if I am not mistaken.

I am in Thirds. Let's see, the subject is supposed to be on the thirds... my only problem is that there is no subject! But lots of thirds! hahahahaha

I'm very happy to have 22 comments on hair and 9 comments on kitchenware! :)

Thanks, Bob. I'm actually really hoping people will like my bubbles entry - I admit I'm a bit nervous about it, 'cause I took a big risk for me. That's a good thing, right?

Heh, just went over to DPC Challenge trivia game and discovered that Jeffrey levyj413 and I both got 9 / 10 right on the questions (not tooting my horn this time - the questions were easy peasy.) He beat my time by about 7 seconds, though. Who says I'm not competitive? :-)

So after much waffling, I decided that this was just not high enough picture quality and too weird for Rule, so I withdrew it in favor of a more conventional entry.

I figure every now and then I have to do a Photography 101 exercise just so I understand this stuff.

Funny thing.....after the comments I got on the kitty shot, I almost wish I'd entered that one.......

It's a terrific shot for me on any level though, especially 'cause I love that spoilt little thing so.

Anyhow.....the one that got away......

ETA: Ya *REALLY* gotta go look at it and read the title of it so that the cheesiness is understandable......8>)

So ... Jeb ... did this help you figure it out ???

I haven't had a chance to read it.....I'm horrible at homework.

Damn!

Rule of Thirds in one page! COOL!!!!

We gotta try and figure out why my mediocre Lanscape entry is looking like it's gonna roll over at a 6.1+.

It doesn't make any sense of the Thirds.....

I will *never* get a grasp on what the flock the voters want.

I would have sworn my Landscape was gonna have trouble breaking 5.0.

I'm happy, but it isn't helpful one bit to me understanding.....I guess I give up and will just keep on doing whatever I damn well please.

Oh wait.....I do that already....silly me!......8>)

Gah, I realized I hadn't updated the teams for my challenge results script. Needless to say, it's done now, and lucky for me it didn't change the results of the Insects 2 challenge.

For that challenge, and any one afterward, if you don't see your image please PM me and let me know.

I've lost track of the various people to congratulate, so general congrats to everyone who's about to post a good score in the challenges closing in 5 minutes.

And major congrats to Noraneko for your finalist shots at betterphoto.com. I still haven't cracked that nut.

I managed to get a bubbles shot in, but I'm only so-so on it myself. Such is suck. But it's good to be in a challenge again. :)
