Hi Karen! Welcome to the clubhouse. Excuse the mess, but I'm not entirely sure who is supposed to vacuum this week.

Thank you for the welcome. I'm not sure how OOB I am to qualify (probably not a lot, my creativity needs work), but my scores do suck (at least now, with only 4 entries, 50% of the time) - I believe my two highest scoring entries are absolute flukes and should not overshadow my true suck-ness. But given the most recent discussions, it's nice to know I'm among people who will not count any high-scoring flukes against me.

Do we have a vacuum? Add me to the chore list, if there is one.

This is a friendly place to extend one's creativity if that's a desire, or just to learn more about photography in general. Feel free to look around the place, peruse the associated threads, and see if it's a comfy fit. If if is, there are wicked initiation rites, often involving poetry and secret missions.... :-)

poetry! not some painful Vogon thing, I hope?

Thanks Jeb, Jeff, noraneko, and everyone else.

I'm sorry I took the comments too much to heart - whoever it was who said that I put the photos up to be critiqued are correct. I was fully expecting critique on lighting, technique, technicals, colours, etc - but not on the breastfeeding itself.

Jeb, you made a comment that we should refrain from comments dealing with the model specifically - but it's something I think the majority of us do. Generally it's in the positive light, so it is overlooked or thanks - things like "beautiful", "cute kid", "nice smile" etc - those are all comments on the models, and I know I'm guilty of it. I do refrain from leaving any sort of comment on images where the subject matter is personally offensive to me (I'm a bit of a prude about some things, I admit - I don't care to see guns, violence, alcohol, pot, even cigarettes).

I have now caught up - I took a day off to wallow, and posted a few bits of factual information about breastfeeding in the comments of the image. I know we all have different views on breastfeeding - the Lord above knows mine have changed drastically in the last few years !

I need to learn to separate my emotions from my images I guess.

Feel free to let me know when I'm over-reacting.

That said - I've done some PP work and now have images in for Rule of Thirds and Free Study. Not sure that either will even break the 5.0 mark, but at least neither are of my kids this time ! :D

Now to find something for kitchenware. . . while I curse my luck that I took this photo too late for "Bubbles"

Just a sort of recreational pause from stamping the feet and shouting. A proper voluptuity of Vogon verse effortlessly combines the two, of course.

Oh dear. My poor addled right-brained brain has no idea what you two are talking about.

I do know that the answer is 42. Does that count?

Karen,

artsiness is only required from people who don't meet the core suckiness requirement. All you need to do is write some faux-Vogon poetry about one of raish's photos, and you're in Team Suck.

Purple, you and color can join teams. It's just a matter of figuring out which ones. The Hoovers definitely need a new member. Entropy and Minus are a little low on fuel as well. Any other suggestions will be entertained...

Well, yes, it counts, but counting is of course an inferior method of arriving at numerical results. We prefer to use bistromath.

Can I join T minus?

Btw, here's the new improved violin (done according to TS feedback)

My brain is EXPLODING trying to think of something witty for KITCHENWARE. I cook almost ALL the meals in this house and have fantastic utensils ... I just don't know what to do with 'em!

Man ... if I come up with nothing for this I will hit a big toe with a hammer.

Anyone with some good ideas are welcome to send me a PM or email me via Greetmir@yahoo.com ...

Thanks in advance ... I KNEW you would help ...

Kitchenware.

Simple can be effective. A single, unique utensil or item against either a gradiated background, or with good "kitchen" bokeh. Good lighting is a must.
Unusual setting. Take your kitchenware to somewhere it does not belong. Photograph it there. This is, of course, DPC - be careful of too busy!
Natural. Take a picture of people doing kitchen things in the kitchen using kitchen utensils.
Combine unusual with natural - have people doing things with kitchen utensils, but NOT in the kitchen.
See earlier kitchen challenges (I think there were some).

Though please try and be original. For the chains challenge, I ended up critiquing about 5-6 chain macros, it's a pretty dull challenge interpretation... I'm already dreading the bokeh after bokeh and wooden spoon on black background macros to come...

Only if you're old enough to have read that when it was first out.

Ah. Were you thinking of doing a nude shoot with the model wearing a saucepan on her head? Or was that just me?

Now, a plastic spoon against a green background...maybe that'll work..

This is really sad.... I had a Commodore 64 computer, with a bitchin'waycool cassette drive, followed by the brand-spankin' new 1541 floppy drive (!), all connected via a neat switch that said "TV/computer" to my 13" B&W TV. And on this Commodore 64, at one point in time (it's pretty hazy going that far back) I think I had a text-based Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy game.

I had that same text based game. Actually, you can still get it on-line.
