I honestly have to disagree with you there. Here's a guy who is spouting off some blithering nonsense about girls he has never met in his life and presumably has only ever seen on TV. I doubt very much he would even recognize a single one of them if he met one of the girls in person.
Would I be thrilled to hear such a comment aimed at a group to which my daughter belonged? No, I wouldn't... but would I go all bezerk, hold protests and call for his head? No, I wouldn't go to any extreme like that either.
Why? Anyone with a brain knows that Imus is making an ignorant, blanket statement with no real reasoning behind it. ("Ho," being short for whore, implies that these girls are slutty... does anyone really think that Imus has insider knowledge about each of the girls' sexual behavior?)
The guy is a shock jock. Any reasonable person knows he says "shocking things." While I can't blame these girls for saying that they're upset by his comments, I think they and the Al Sharptons of the world are going waaaaay overboard by claiming that they're scarred for life.
If you're that easily scarred for life, you're gonna have lots of scars by the time you're dead. |
I think Imus' tendency to periodically spew out racist and sexist remarks are just his true nature peeking out. I'm not surprised that his sponsors went calling for his head. Sharpton may have added some fuel to the fire with his antics, but, Imus himself struck the match. |

I think what was said was wrong. I think his ratings would suffer for it. A suspension for causing offense seems fair to me, if for nothing more than the loss of business and profits it cost the company.
That said, what I take offense with is the duality of acceptability. You go into an urban environment and listen and you'll see such vernacular and terms being tossed about. And please don't tell me it's okay to say such if you're black. Because that is simply racist and judging on skin color not character. Skin color should not be the only determining factor in right or wrong. The fact that a black radio jock can say such comments repeatedly without any recrimination. And rap music can toss those terms around as if it was standard talk.
So what we really have created is merely a racist divide in which it's okay if your skin color is white to do x and not y. And if you're black it's wrong to do x but not y. We now have actions that are wrong only based on skin color.
How the *bleep* does that equate to equality?
PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME WITHOUT GOING INTO POLITICALLY CORRECT DRIVEL I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW. |

The Duke accuser should go to jail for the same length of time as ALL four of the accusers would have been.
Duke, should have to supplement the coach's salary at his new job. I say supplement because who would want to work for a boss after being fired that way.
These four kids almost spent the best years of their life in jail. Frankly, that "ho" should be locked up. I truly hope they file criminal charges against her.

i think this was a much more powerful message than either jesse jackson OR al sharpton. if you really want to do something about censorship in this country, support your local (or national) public broadcasting outlet and boycott networks that are in the pockets of large corporations.
this isn't a case of censorship so much as it is about $$. |
It's much more basic then "large corporations", which seems to be everyone's punching bag. If Imus was on a public broadcasting program and he costs them lots of money he probably would have gotten canned there too. |

wrong!
whores get paid. sluts just do it for the thrill.
the ladies are prevented by NCAA regulations from profiting because of their presence on a team in a sanctioned sport. so they are, in all likelihood, "nappy-headed sluts" as they would have to give it away for free.
i now return you to your regularly-scheduled rant. |

possibly. although a non-commercial outlet wouldn't have felt as immediate of an impact financially.
and, frankly, idiots like imus are the reason WHY i prefer non-commercial broadcasting. |

I'm likely a bit slow on this, but I found this really, really funny clip from Comedy Central which mainly pokes fun at Nancy Grace about the Duke Lacrosse (non)Rape.

Ask nearly any black male over the age of 16 about being pulled over for "driving while black". |

I think it's more likely that the (now ex) DA will wind up in court for exceeding his authority and negligence. Probably in both civil AND criminal cases.
