Hey Lori congrats on the new baby, I didnt see this until now. We also only had one, also a stud colt this year. The three mares in Iowa, one had her filly about a months ago, the second mare wasnt in foal and the third one we lost along with her foal last week when she got into difficulties giving birth. The colt was so big that he got wedged at this hips in the birth canal and they couldnt do anything for him. I didnt ask any specific details becaue it upset me too much and the following day they had to put the mare down too because she ran a high risk of being paralysed because of the trauma involved and was still down after nearly 48 hours. It broke my heart. The two mares and the one foal will be coming home in July/August.
I a doing a photo a day blog along with a whole bunch of DPCers, you can find it here : Loris PAD Blog. It has stacks of photos of the new baby we have here. He was born on 15 April (Tax day) so his barn name is Taxes. This name was suggested by a fellow blogger. He is a little tyrant!
Your yearling filly looks wonderful, they grow up so fast.
Good to see you again

Thanks Lori. I am excited about this colt. He seems to be really smart and a quick learner. I expect he will be taller than his full sister when they both mature. It will be neat to see how they both grow. Sorry to hear about your mare and colt. That has to be real difficult for you.
We are taking this year off from breeding. Next spring well we probably be breeding my mares again. I will check out your blog. Thanks for the link.

Hi Lori
I look forward to seeing more pics of him soon.
We have also taken the year off from breeding. My husband kicked and screamed that brood mares need to have babies, and I kicked and screamed that it was me that looked after them and we have 6 yearlings and 4 other horses we need to sell at lease. I wont send them to a sale so we are stuck with them until I can find good homes. I hope that the numbers are less by winter (we have 20 at the moment). The two mares coming back from our friend in Iowa are the only ones that will be in foal, to a palomino.
Hae fun I love babies
Lori
