Nope, not furry ones, but the stage show.
Becky-Lee,my wonderful daughter and best friend, took me to the 25th Anniversary Tour production of Cats tonight, as my birthday present. Our seats were front row center, and I do mean center! We were two seats away from EXACT center... I've never had seats like that for ANYthing before.

Man, that show is... indescribable. I have the soundtrack and have seen amateur and made-for-tv productions, so I know the story and music but I was blown away. Sitting so close, I felt like I was part of it and totally forgot that there were more than a thousand people behind me.
During the finale one of the cats came down and stood RIGHT in front of me, maybe a couple feet from my face and just stared intently at me for about a minute. I was finally laughing soooo hard because he didn't do anything but stare.... then he finally gave the cutest little smile.

Living on an island I rarely get to see any decent live shows, but we finally have a venue here big enough to host them. So yeah, this was a big thing for me, and I LOVED every minute of it! Along with all the other great things they did for me this weekend, it was the bestestest birthday EVER! :D

Anyone else seen it? If you haven't and get a chance, GO!

Oh it's such fun to read your story Sheila! I had to laugh about the part where the actor was staring at you :D

I'm happy you had such a good time with your daughter. Keep this close in your memory so you can enjoy it over and over again :D

And I got hit in the forehead by a roll of tinsel-stuff fired from a mini-bazooka thingy so I had to bring a few yards of it home, cuz I'm too cheap to spend $15 for a souvenir program :D

Sitting that close for a professional production is amazing. I've had similar seats for The King and I (at the QE theatre in Vancouver).

My feeling is that if you're going to spend the money to go see one of these productions then get the very best seats you can afford. It's well worth it.

edit: I've seen Cats a few times, have the DVD and the soundtrack

I will go see that some time. I have found it interesting from what I've seen of it. So, when is your Birthday? My birthday is today, April 9th. A friend of mine's daughter's birthday is also today. Metatate's daughter is 2 years old today.

Yes, good seats are even better. It makes you feel like your're part of it. When I was young I saw a Ballet Production close up. I heard a lot of clomping and stomping of their feet. From a distance Ballet performers are not as noisy. Live performances even sound different close up.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :D Mine was Saturday, the 7th.... the *shudder* big five-oh. But the family was MUCH nicer than I expected (I'd been rather scared!)

The sound of feet was one thing I noticed, but in this case I was surprised that I heard almost none, considering the movements, backflips and all. They really WERE like cats, light on their feet!
Amazin' weekend.....*contented sigh*....
